Hi everyone. In the thought of keeping things organized, I have created this thread in which new members can ask if they have had a lucid dream.
We have gotten quite a few postings of this type, and I welcome them because they almost always indicate that there is now another lucid dreamer in the world. Yay! :)
Please, use this topic to ask the "Was this an LD type of questions. Staff, if you see that someone has made an independent post on this, please merge it into this thread.

I think you should go in depth on why you made this topic
I say that because I think if I was a noob that was skeptical about LDing and I saw a topic like this I would say to myself: "humph, new people that had LDs have to ask whether or not they had them, LDing is total bullshit"
(maybe put something about how there's different levels of lucidity, ranging from totally life-like consciousness, to just-drank-a-gallon-of-whiskey awareness.)

Wow! I think I may have just had my first lucid experience, although it did not last long because I felt myself become excited.....
I am a magician, and am very familiar with hypnotism... I hypnotized myself and focused myself on entering a dream and being aware of it. As my mind started to "drift away" you might say, I found myself in a large open space, all alone and no objects... just openness. I then became aware that I was dreaming, and I thought to myself, I am actually just lieing in my bed, none of this is happening.. And then it was over and I returned to my original state before hypnosis... It was really strange, I have never felt a sensation like this, it was a very good feeling... I think this may be my path to lucid dreaming... Was I beginning to lucid dream? Should I continue this same technique?

hey guys - i am a writer from southern California who has had a history of vivid dreams and has just heard about lucid dreaming a few weeks ago. This is my first post. I'm a little confused how i can have dream recall if i cant remember my dream immediately when i get up (i have what feels like about 10 dreams on an average 8 hour sleep. i only remember having a lot of dreams, but not what they entailed) - if i don't remember them, they don't exist anymore, right? I've never practiced lucid dreaming in my life - but i have noticed that if i concentrate on dreaming before i go to sleep just a little bit, i'll have pretty vivid dreams.
i had this one the other day - i was sleeping on my friend's couch. She had said hi to me in the morning when i had just gotten to sleep and had said some things i don't really remember. i groaned and said "I'll wake up soon". i rested my head on the couch, closed my eyes and immediately started dreaming that i got up and made breakfast with her. I remember being strangely closer to her than normal. i remember when we finished my hair and kissed me, her hair looked like wisps of long, yellow swirls. she did it almost naturally, and i felt surprised but pretty satisfied: I've been attracted to her for some time. I don't remember much from that one, but there was a really prevalent sense of reality that when i woke up, i swore that it had actually happened. the thought of doing something like that had been running through my head for a while - looks like i made it for myself the safest way how (she's pretty heard-headed). It was a pretty heavy, vivid but hazy dream that made it feel like a teenage summer relationship.
I guess i should mention this other one I had a while ago - I'll be quick about it. I was walking down this dark dirt road in my hometown (mojave desert) and i was filled with the feeling that i had lost something important - i was just rambling around. i could see the houses along the road from the cars passing by. there was a huge white moon in the sky, looking elusive and distant. I decided i needed to get back home - i hitchhiked from a blue semi truck. i told the driver where i lived. he didn't acknowledge me at all and started driving. I didn't really feel comfortable with him, but slowly fell asleep in the passenger seat. i woke up what seemed like hours later, and there was a beautiful, translucent woman looking at me, about 6 inches from my face. I was still sitting in the passenger's seat and it looked like daylight outside - i was terrified. She gave me a knowing smile and said "don't worry," she looked off to her left, out the window, her eyes started glowing a light green, "I won't rest until it's done"
"what?" was on the tip of my tongue, but i violently jerked awake, and looked at the truck driver. He gave me a mortified looked, like i had just did something terrible and i woke up a minute before my alarm clock.
lucid? lucid dream in a lucid dream? crazy?
Well, I don't think your dream was lucid (at no point you knew you were dreaming) but quite interesting: you "fell asleep" in a dream and started dreaming in it...
Hmm this thread could be quite helpful, alot of my dreams make me feel like I may have been somewhat concious I was dreaming, yet not completely sure. Thank you for making this, will certainly come in handy :)
Hi guys, I have a question on this sort of thing...
Is it natural for a Lucid dream to feel more and more like a normal dream over time?
Because when I had my lucid dream, it felt very lucid and powerful at the time, but as time went on I started doubting it and it felt more and more like a normal dream.
ok. i had a dream once and i always think of it as being a lucid one. That because i read some stuff on it at the time and was really trying hard; taking intentions and so before sleeping. Here it is:
i was walking outside in some city with a lot of nature , could call it suburban. It was night. There were some people around i had talked to, but they scattered, and i was aware of some place must further away where i had to go or that was connected to the place i was at. Where i was there were some streetlights, a ditch, some fencing and some houses in the distance. i was on the road, which was asphalted or just beside it. All by all the dream had the theme/feeling of a roadmovie/chase.
Then for some reason i realized i was dreaming. i cant recall why. But there i was, aware of being in a dream. This was different from being aware as in normal live. (maybe i just dreamed i had a lucidD??)
Then i looked up and i saw the stars in the sky and i could see alot of them, like when you are really far away from society. And i decided to let them fall and woosh. they all fell in one big movement! (diagonally down to the right) After i saw that i was amazed, soo much i woke up.
Anybody has some insight on that? Was it LD or not ? And does anybody know what it means to let all the stars in the heaven fall down at once.. i keep having this bad feeling about it. Or should i repost it then in another thread ? thanks ahead
Yupp, so I had one of these "was This A Lucid Dream-dream" last night!
It's really hard to explain the dream, but I'll do my best.
So, I was with a friend (don't know who it was) and we (no, actually he) were being chased by this assasine.
The dream was both from a 3rd persons eyes and from my own. I saw this guy hire the assasin for some reason. Well, anyways the assasine catches up with us and kills my friend and then sneeks away from the scene. Then the whole scene changes and the dream repetes in a another place. I wasn't that scared that my friend got killed all the time because I knew I was dreaming. I didn't do anything to try to control the dream, instead I tried to find out who that guy was and why he was killing my friend. :?

This thread isn't dead. It's just for people that are confused as to whether they had a lucid dream or not. Just because its a sticky doesn't mean it needs to be posted in every day.
Im not sure if this can be classified as a LD or not. I think of it as kind of a semi-LD. anyway this is what happened:
I am in my bed and I remember that I took my watch off before I went to sleep that night and looked at my wrist and tadaa! I have my watch on and I realize im dreaming. I watched Waking life right before sleeping, so my wrist was all crazy animated like in the movie giving me further evidence. Anyway I sat there and some reason felt like I shouldnt use my "power" to any great extent so I did small things while sitting in my bed like make inanimate objects appear. (a carton of cigarettes, a deck of cards, etc) The only thing that is making me question the lucidity of this dream is that My mindset was somethin like this: "I can do these things because I am dreaming" but at the same time I think that I believed I was awake, and that doing really crazy stuff like flying or something wouldn't wake me up necessarily, but I would lose my power to realize I was dreaming, or the next time I look at my wrist there will be no watch and I would be awake without waking up. I dont know if this makes sense, it barely makes sense to me. but any input as to the classification of somethin like this is appreciated.
I also wanted to add that I manipulated my dream through another character. My brother was in the dream and he said something to me like "hey look what I did to you in the mirror" I looked and I had some bulging muscles. I think this is something I wanted to do but was too scared to try because i thought I was "crossing the line" and manipulating my dream too much.

There have been a few times while I am falling where it seems like I slowly lose control of my thoughts and they start turning into a dream. I never seem to quite lose conciuosness though. Then I will remember that I am in bed falling asleep and quickly wake completely up. I am not sure wether these are really dreams or not. Unfortunately I can't remember one right now which would probably help me know.
Thats a good question, I get that alot "I've got to get up now, I have work to do" or something along those lines. I wouldn't know if you could class it as a lucid or not. I suppose it is one because you know that you're asleep and dreaming.

This morning, I had a FA. I started writing in my DJ and then my mom and dad entered the house with some co-workers. I was like, wait a minute, my mom and my dad, together?
I was almost sure it was a dream so I did a nose-RC, it failed. Did another one a moment later, failed again. I decided too look at my hands, but before I did I woke up..
Lucid?
I had been planning for my first LD to make a Chocolate Cake appear and for me to eat it, because I'm allergic to cake and such (read signature). However, during one dream, things were very fuzzy. I don't think I was anywhere, I was in what I call a Unconcentrated Void, or a white nothingness but you are so unconcentrated on the details that you don't notice that there is no sense of up, down, or anything. Anyway, I remember saying out loud, I'm not sure to my control or not, "I want some chocolate cake!"
Bam, it appeared, and I promptly slammed my face into it before the dream disappeared. I don't remember the taste or rather even eating it, but I remember attempting to put my face in it.
Was it lucid...? Or just a dream about lucid dreams...? Fake control? I don't know.
Developer, Sorry that wasn't a lucid dream, it was close because you knew some thing was wrong but you had no idea you was dreaming.
Arach, did you know you was dreaming at anytime? You sound like you just had dream control.
I...don't recall. I think that I said "I must be dreaming!", but my mind might be creating false memories. It's all very faint. That's why I consider this just 1/2 of a lucid dream.
Hey, I'm new here. Anyway, I just started researching Lucid Dreams and am going to take the steps to try and experiance them, but I have one question first. I've read that often times newcomers will enter a LD and then immediatly wake up due to the excitment. I'm not sure, but I think this might happen to me. For as long as I can remember, every once in awhile I'll be having a dream and then suddenly and violently wake up. I'll usually jump straight up or kick out or something of that nature. Is that what the reading means when waking up as soon as it starts? I'm sorry, but I can't really recall if I ever become aware I'm dreaming. Only that it happens while I'm dreaming.

well i have a problem defining what dreams are... i've had this for at least 10 times.. in this cases i always figure out that i'm dreaming.. and instantly.. everything becomes white.. preassure in my head is beggining to grow.. and then this vision comes.. it is like watching really old projection.. black and white .. old movie.. it is like a vision.. example.: there is a cyclop woman.. with one eye.. and behind there is an evil man.. and he pops her eye out with a fishook.. and then laughs. it is all in black and white.. but it is not as everybody describes LD.. i dont have control over anything.. there is not even me in this dark visions.. but this happens every time.. i realize that i'm dreaming.. and occasionaly it is even.. supported by a term hmm... i dont know how you call it... i say "sleep freeze (paralysis) " and those strange body vibes.. which are as i read occasionaly followed after LD.. what are this images, visions.. i see?
If you realize that you are dreaming in a dream, but can't control anything ... Is it a lucid dream?

Hello, first of all i am sorry abut my english i know its not very good. But anyways here is the story:
i was taking nap at day time , then i woke up and tought to myself i cant sleep right now. SO i went to my kitchen talked to my girlfriend about stuff (dont really remember about what)and then we did that adult stuff :) and then suddenly i wake up and i was very confused. At first i able to control my body (like for first 2-3 min.) but after that it got very weird i was like feeling everything i was doing but i coud not control my body.(and actually i a m not even sure did i feel things i just dont remember did i feel or not but im bretty sure that i did)
so i have few questions:
1. can i have a lucid dream whitout even trying? (i mean whitout doing thouse exercises)
2. was it even a lucid dream?
3.and if it was then why coud i only control my body for the first couple of min's. ?
and once again sorry about my english if u didnt understand anything just ask and i will try to explain what i meant.
Hey, welcome to the forum!
1. Yes, you can have LD's accidentally.
2. As long as you were aware that you were dreaming, it's a lucid dream. It doesn't matter how much control you have, or if you had any at all.
3. LD's can have different levels of control. Sometimes you'll be able to exert power over every last detail in your dream, and sometimes you'll have no control at all. It just varies, and for many people they have less control when they first start out.

Hey I had a lucid dream this morning for the first time in years, at least I think it was, I dreamt I was walking down a road and I went into a newsagents to buy a paper then I was walking home but I couldnt find my way back, I noticed a girl rushing past me really fast, impossible fast for real life, at that point I thought I must be dreaming and I felt like I was trying to open my eyes but I resisted. I saw my bedroom appear like a veil over my dream then dissapear then I figured if I was still dreaming I should be able to fly, at that point I started flying and I caught up with the girl, then I felt my eyes open again and I saw a glowing figure sitting on my bed watching me, this freaked me out and I felt my head shake then I woke up.
I've had a few lucid dreams through out my life, one thing that always sticks out is the intense detail of things, I remember one dream where I was starring at my curtains, the fabric glistened and the more I looked the more detail I could see, the dream ended when I noticed the back field behind my house was covered in thousands of black birds, I panicked and woke up. I don't why but when I get scared I wake up, probably from watching nightmare on elm street as a kid :D
I'd say you were lucid. Lucid with possible false awakenings.

I use to have Lucid Dreams quite often then I went through three very difficult years and have nearly lost the ability altogether and want to get it back. I do have an occasional one by accident, but it's rare.

There have been two times where I think that i may have experienced lucid dreams. In one instance I searched for dream signs and upon discovering a seated, immobile, semi-frightening man, realized that I was dreaming and immediately woke up. There was an errie, strange quality present about the man that alerted me to the fact that i was dreaming. I am new to this web site and would appreciate it if someone could tell me if it is common to awake upon realizing that a dream has become lucid, and how this can be avoided in the future. Both times, I woke up and had difficulty returning to sleep.
Sometimes when im falling asleep, I keep a setting in my mind and try to go into the setting and turn it into a dream as im falling asleep. I tell myself that im dreaming as im lying in bed but as soon as I start drifting off, I forget that im dreaming, and I go into the dream for around 2 minutes. But then as soon as I remember that its a dream, it fades and im awake, but still lying in bed with closed eyes. The thing is that its still pretty early into my sleep when it happens and I dont know if it was a full dream or if I was just thinking up the dream as I was drifting off. would you call it a LD?
Ive never had a lucid dream, apart from this, which MIGHT have been one.
It was YEAAAARS ago when i was in school, and it was a dream. ib my dream i was in a small lane near my school. I knew i was dreaming, and asked this boy (who always annoyed me back then) to kick me, so i would wake up. He said he wouldnt, because he was "not doing that sort of thing aanyore" i think i eventually woke upp.... Was this a lucid dream?
Hi all, long time reader first time poster =)
I've been reading these forums for a while, and i've been using the subliminal message program on my PC. I've also been keeping a dream diary but i keep forgetting to write in it when i have to get up early for school.
About a week ago i had a dream where i thought hey im dreaming - this is a lucid dream - but then i seemed to get distracted or the fact wasn't interesting or something - and i carried on walking.
I was thinking about that dream when i went to sleep last night, as well as having used the subliminal message program earlier. I THINK i might have had a lucid dream last night.
It started where i was going to a customers house to fix something (my work involves messing with peoples PCs). When i got there i saw he'd somehow plugged a lightbulb into it's socket using a USB cable. This didn't worry me, but what made me realise was that i seemed to remember dreaming that before (although i didnt when i woke up) which made me think - hey im dreaming! I tried counting my fingers as an RC ... i somehow got confused (ok i admit it im not that smart :content: ) but it seemed like i had roughly 8 fingers .. since i was having trouble counting my fingers :oops: i tried holding my nose - and i could breathe - i got really excited and felt myself waking up so i calmed down and i stayed in the dream. When i turned around instead of the cutomer from work there was a friend from school - we then walked out of the building we were in (gets sketchy here ... bad dream recall) and walking down the road i met another friend (female) who's coincidentally a natural lucid dreamer, though she doesnt have that great recall. I groped one of her boobs for some reason that seemed more sensible at the time XD and she slapped me. i said sorry and we kept on walking. I remember stopping at some point when it was seeming vague to do the "increase lucidity" thing. I remember looking at an archway with a green garage door next to it and thinking ... whoa look at the detail! At some point i remembered that i culd try and bring people into my dreams ... i immagined another friend being behind a door and tried opening it but it didnt work, so i tried it with a pie or cake or something instead .. that didnt work either. I went into a supermarket at some point and then i think i had a false awakening, i remember waking up lying next to the friends i was with in the dream ... i forgot to do a reality check there and so continued dreaming normally until i woke up later.
Sorry for all the pointless detail there - do you think this was a real lucid dream or just me immagining i was having one ... from my sketchy memory of it it didnt SEEM that different from a normal dream although i seemed to have control.
I think it would be easier for me to tell with better recall, i best work on that :content:

I almost always know when I am dreaming...and I often find that I can manipulate my dreams. This happens most often when it is a scary dream. I become kind of concious, and can change the dream to another dream.
Is this lucid dreaming?
hey, i am really new to this site and to this whole idea, but i have done something like this before kind of..
i have always been fascinated with dreams and such and then a few months ago a few friends and i started doing this new thing we call wordblah which is basically- well, this is how i do it anyways:
i sit in the corner of a silent room with the lights off usually, sometimes on though, with my computer on my lap, take a minute to completely relax and clear my mind, close my eyes, and kind of like half fall asleep, but still typing, and type anything that comes to mind, and after a while you kind of fall asleep but you just keep typing and typing without realizing it and sometimes you can do it for like 10 minutes and you write the weirdest stuff.... they tend to get morbid too, at least they did for me and my friends. (once i predicted my death, to the second, and its in about 10 years...)

but i wanted to know, is this lucid dreaming, or anything like it?
I was wondering if this dream counts as a lucid one (I achieve lucidity at the end, but I don't lose it because I lose focus, but because my alarm went off and I had to get up for university ^^; )
Anyway, the dream itself started in a square, with a bunch of random people and one of my flatmates and me standing around. He suddenly shouts "Hey! Let's all show off our cocks!" to which everybody goes yea and starts pulling down their pants. I just stand there and eventually when they turn to me I just say "Eh... I'm not exactly well-endowed... more like average", but my flatmate just shrugs and says "Its okay... wait, I know! Let's all party!". I ask where and he just answers "I know just the place... come on everybody!". So I follow him and somehow I turn up at this house, though he is gone and I'm surrounded by a completely different bunch of random people. In this house, we are all just talking and wandering around, and I then go up into the attic and I see this baby getting dragged along with floor, laughing away as things get knocked around or down. So I realise that the attic is haunted with a poltergeist. Going back downstairs, I hear screams, and as I run into the kitchen, there are bee's everywhere. So I go into this cupboard and pull out a huge can of insecticide and start spraying it everywhere, soon killing all the bees. Sighing with relief, more bugs come, so then I'm spraying away so to kill them all or make them go away, but the waves of bugs keep coming. Eventually, just as I run out of bug spray, I see and hear a swarm of hornets build up outside. Knowing that I must do something before they come in, I run out of the kitchen and run upstairs.

I stop at the top of the stairs, realising that I was dreaming. Everything was quite fuzzy, so the first thing that came to mind was to spin around in order to get me more focused on the dream. Now that I start spinning, I begin to feel less detached and more aware of everything, even though I had closed my eyes. Then, just then.... my alarm clock went off. So then I had to wake up (not much choice... uni has priority)
Oh well... at least I took the step of realising I was dreaming within a dream. I think that counts as my first DILD? No?
^^^ Yes! People, the difinition of an LD is "being in a dream while knowing you are dreaming." It does not matter if you woke up right after or not, or if you had no control. As long as you knew you were dreaming, it's an LD. (Sorry if I sound annoyed. It's because I am.) :wink:

Okay, I was in a dream that was completely random. Something about stealing a Grade 7 test from my old elementary school (which is only K-5...) and having to do that test before I became lucid. After being chased away by some old man, I download the test off the internet. I do the test, and my friend tells me to go to sleep and see if I have a lucid dream. So I go to sleep.
Now, I am dreaming within a dream. I know right away I am dreaming. For the first time ever, I actually have full control. It's an amazing experience. I look down at my hands, I count 12 fingers total. However, through all of this, even though I have complete control, I am thinking that the dream I just came from about stealing the grade 7 test is the real world.
So I dunno if this counts as having an exceptionally vivid dream about being lucid, or being lucid.
I think I had a lucid dream... I was walking to school and something happened that made me question the reality. I realized I was dreaming and tried to fly. I flew for about 50 feet before I got too excited and lost control. In the dream, I fell to the ground and woke up.
Before I had this dream I had just learned about lucid dreams and was really interested in them, so that explains why I had one (i think).
Right I'm new here, but I had a wierd dream the other night.
The dream was about me coming out a coma, and I noticed everything had changed and things felt wierd, and everyone was being different to me, I remeber asking my mum what the date was and she said it was November, so I'd been in the comma for a while. Anyway things were strange, like in the dream I had a dog, so I questioned that, and my mum said what you talking about we've always had a dog, and I dont have one in real life. After a series of odd things it was then that I started to say I'm dreaming, I'm dreaming and I was certain I was dreaming.
I've never experienced that, I've always taken odd things in my dream as if they were normal and they made sense to me but this time I started to question.
Anyway back to the dream. I can remeber trying to wake up from the dream, and I remeber going through a stage of crossing over from the dream to an awake state, but the awake state, wasn't reality awakeness, I woke up in my bed, but I was still dreaming. So this first thing about the dog and date was a dream I was having inside my dream.
At this point, (I've had knowllege before of lucid dreaming) so I started to ponder if I was lucid dreaming, I felt a sense of control but it only last a few seconds before I woke up to reality.
well i just had a dream about 37 minutes ag, and it was really vivid like i remember being scared and everything, but i didn't know i was in a dream it was just really lifelike. I bookmarked this site about 1-2 years ago and since have had alot of dreams similar to this one very realistic, but i was unable to manipulate the enviroment. Ex: one dream i even said to myself "this is so real how could it be a dream" while i was dreaming. Which lead to me thinking that dreams act out as any "real action or memory" because think to a memory that accually happened, then to dream. The only difference is that your real memory has effects on other memorys, your experiences all coordinate and have cause and effects. LOL well kinda went off there but does this dream qualify as a "lucid dream"?
I can barely recall it now, but I had a dream where a beast was trying to pull me underwater in a strange way: He zoomed around a lake in circles while descending. I was worried until I said something like: "what are you worried about? It's a dream!"
Upon that realization, I grabbed the thing's hand and ripped it off. The dream ended shortly after that. I still don't know if that was a semi-lucid or part of the script.
I was listning to binaural beat sequence that is supposed to induce a lucid dream. When the sequence finished i took my headfones off and set my alarm for 2 am so i could then get up and hope to have a wake induced lucid dream, I then, seemingly instantly, woke again to the sound of my alarm, but i was so tired that i just went back to sleep. I woke again at 6 am, remembering that i hadnt set my alarm and I might be late for school. so i set the alarm for 8 and went back to sleep. I woke up again at 8:30 wondering why the alarm did not go off, and also wondering why my headfones were still on. Turns out i dreapmt the whole thing. In my dream, i consciously set my alarm several times, with purpose. I remember it as if i were awake.... Was I lucid dreaming??
I guess this would be my first official lucid dream. Im at the corner store, corner bodega or whatever you wanna call it. My freind tells me to get a cigar. So i tell the cashier i want a honey palma dutch master, but when he gives it to me it's all deformed and stale. It also had the most revolting smell to it. My freind and I almost throw up in a gray garbage pale. im spitting into the pale on the brink of vomitting when it just hits me that im dreaming. I got way too exicted, you see this was the first time this has ever happened. The store turned in to a three story house and i began running up the stairs to get to the roof. I had the idea of jumping off to see what would happen. At this point im trying to run as fast as i can but not getting very far. just as im about to hit the roof i awake. The only thing im wondering is what made me realize i was dreaming.

i have been researching a lot about lucid dreaming lately and have been wanting to have one really bad. last night i had a dream that i was in my house sitting by the computer, and wanted to take a nap to try to have a lucid dream. once i fell asleep in my dream, i was back in my room by the computer, and i said "oh i need to do a reality check" (because i have been doing them a lot in real life and i thought this was real life) then i saw that i had too many fingers, and the time on the clock was changing. i realized i was dreaming but it was within my other dream. then i woke up from my lucid inside of my dream and was back in my normal dream and i was all excited because i thought i had a lucid and i thought my normal dream was real life. i know this is confusing, but was this a lucid dream? or just having a dream that i had a lucid dream?
Last night I started to have nightmare. I had to crawl through a small space like a cave. Eventually I got to a point where i couldn't crawl forward anymore, so I tried to crawl backwards. I couldn't. I started to breath heavily and I was screaming for help. And then all of a sudden I said. Wait a minute i'm in a dream. And all of the anxiety and hyperventilation stopped. Next I tried to do a hand check but everything started to fade out and I woke up a minute later.
I don't know if It was a lucid dream or not because It was very late in the morning and I was kind of half-asleep/half-awake, but i was dreaming. Anyway i'm glad that when i said "im dreaming" that i wasn't scared anymore. Hopefully I remember to do that everytime I start having a nightmare. Now just to be conscious enough in the dream to question reality, usually I just go along for the ride.
