New member looking for some quick answers

Hi everyone. I've never heard about any of this, but I started reading tonight and thought it sounded rather interesting. Anyway, I just joined today and was wondering if someone could answer a few quick questions I had relating to LD.

1. Whenever I dream, I have problems seeing. That is, there is usually a very bright light that forces me to look away. Naturally, I can't see what is going on fully. Does this mean anything or can anything significant be concluded from this? One peace of information that might be usefull is that I am light sensitive as a result of having Glaucoma as a child.

2. i experience a very strange phenomenone every now and then when I am in bed. There would be times when I would be conscious (I think), but I can't move at all. I can't open my eyes or move any part of my body, but I can feel my muscles start to ache as I lay in that position for a long time. I almost feel held down and unable to do anything. The only way I get out of it is to muster all my strength to kind of jolt me so I move and break this strange spell. This usually occures in the middle of the night or in the early morning when I wake up. I feel conscious. I even say to myself, not again. It's a little frightening and unnerving. Has anyone else felt this? Any idea what it means or what it is?

What is everyone's take on deja vu? Is it related to LD or what? I mean...I SWEAR there were times when I've done the same things before. The strange thing is...I correctly predict what will happen...so I know something is weird.

I can answer the deja vu question at least. I've had deja vu quite a few times, turns out that I have dreamed of it before it had happened. I used to keep a dream journal and I would go back and read events that I had dreamed of sometimes years before.

Hey, although I am knew to all of this, I believe what you are experiencing when you wake up and cant move at all is Sleep Paralysis. We all experience it every night we go to sleep, possibly so we dont act out our own dreams and cause harm. Most people never feel SP because once they wake up its gone, and they never give it a second thought. However others must go through this every day. In fact its a very helpful way to induce Lucid Dreaming, since your entire body is already in the sleep stage, the next steps are hypnotic imagery and then your dreaming, you just have to keep your mind awake and aware. I'll let the experts post a better answer, but I hope this helps you for now since your looking for quick answers. peace

What you experienced does sound like Sleep Paralysis and apparently its normal for everyone just most people don't even notice it because its gone before they wake up like Monkey said. :)

Anyway, as the second question has already been answered I shall try to answer the first and last.

I can honestly say I don't have a clue as of what you can do but look deep into the light remembering that it isn't real and cannot hurt your eyes. Maybe you can run into it with your eyes half closed or something. The good thing about it is you can use it as a dreamsign and recognize that you are dreaming through it.

The third question: I don't think it is related to lucid dreaming, but as Daeraug said it is related to dreaming itself. Those are called precognitive dreams, where you dream of something that later comes true. When you don't remember the dream it feels like a deja-vu...

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I'll take all the information into consideration when that happens again. About the bright light, I think it is a definite dream sign and I will be sure to keep an eye out for it. :goodjob2:

I get that muscle paralysis thing whenever i meditate. Basically I think that your body has fallen asleep (heart beat slows, muscles loosen and relax, breathing slows down) but your mind is still active. I feel that this type of sleep relaxes my body more then actually sleeping. You can always move your muscles if there is danger near, whereas you cannot if you sleep.

Regarding the light in your dream:
Tell your wife or mother to go back to sleep and switch the lamp off
