Im very interested in just being able to remember my dreams, let alone control them. I usually remember absolutely nothing about my dreams, even though apparently I 4 or 5 a night. But it so happens that Im a VERY heavey sleeper. My mom always told me I could sleep through world war 3. So from what I understand the best way to remember dreams is through a dream journal, and the best way to have a good memory of a dream is to wake up during the REM stage of sleep. Therin lies the problem: I often sleep through a loud alarm clock, causing me to be late for work/school. I was wondering if there was any technique to being able to wake up easier, not only to help me remember my dreams, but also to help out with my daily life?

Well, sometimes I may be a really heavy sleeper. Other times, I sleep incredibly light.
Try telling yourself your going to wake up at a certain time. This often works for me because my internal clock still "knows what time it is" in a sense.
If you don't have any luck with that maybe try having one of those small alarm clocks that you can plug headphones into. Those should be loud enough to at least startle you.

If all else fails, try going to sleep earlier. Sometimes when you go to bed and how many hours you sleep affects how deeply you sleep.

Try these out.

I'm a pathetically sound sleeper. I've slept through a few minor earthquakes, among other things
What I do when I need to wake myself up is drink a ton of water before going to sleep. That way, in four or five hours, I've got to get up to go to the bathroom. The only hitch with this plan is that sometimes getting up to go to the bathroom can impair your recall significantly, and having the self-control to write down the dreams before you relieve yourself isn't always easy.
Anyway, other than that, just the typical suggestions:
-Sleep on a regular schedule if at all possible.
-Exercise regularly.
-Make sure you're intaking the proper vitamins.
-Don't allow yourself to sleep longer than 8 hours.

Excellent advice. Also, get some sunlight in your eyes. You don't have to stare at the sun, but avoid wearing sunglasses all day long. This allows your body to create melatonin.

Im also a very heavy sleeper, and have a hard time at falling asleep.

When I want to wake up at a certain time, I just make a mental note to wake up, and when I fall asleep, 9/10 times I wake up when I wanted to, even in the middle of dreams. Im not sure why, but Auto-Suggestion works really well for me with these kinds of things.

So thats something else you could try in addition to an alarm clock, tell yourself to be aware of the sound, and hopefully, even though your asleep, your sub-conscious mind will pick up on the Alarm Clock, and remember that you wanted to get up when you heard it, and you will wake up.

Hey yeah im new at this too n im the same way! im late 2 school b/c of it too i always sleep thru the dam alarm. but... i find that if i get more sleep im way more likely 2 remember my dreams and wake up to the alarm. i actually had a good 8 hours last night i remembered 2! yayyyy. but... i took valerian root and vitamin b-6 which are supposed 2 help increase recall... and ive been keeping a journal for prolly about 2 weeks now. i had the alarm set for 5 hours into my sleep and when i woke up i didn't write it down just went back to sleep but just having woken up at all helps me remember most it... even though writing it down would've been better. just keep with it... my recalls slowly getting better yours will too!! also as your going 2 sleep tell yourself you'll remember. and i write it down too... "i will remember my dreams, i will remember my dreams". good luck
