Hi
I accidently discovered this site when trying to learn more about lucid dreaming. I was pretty surprised to find a whole community into this stuff.
I've experienced lucid dreaming more or less unintentionally, and has lately been trying to learn more about it. This site has helped me a great deal already... Thanks everyone :)
And a quick question (if anyone actually bothers to read this). Has anyone else been bothered with sleep paralysis when waking up? It kind of feels like you can't wake up all the way, and you just lie there unable to move.... Any advice on how to avoid this would be appreciated.

Hey there Crumbs.. welcome aboard, just curious are you a MINISTRY fan? I ask because of your nickname.

I'm a hardcore MINISTRY fan, have been for years. Dark Side Of The Spoon is probably my favorite.

Hi Crumbs, welcome to Dream Views.
I hated sleep paralysis when I had it. I couldn't stop it. It eventually died out on it's own after I took to seriously trying to lucid dream.
If you half wake up again, try to remember the dream you woke out of and tell yourself to slip back into it. You should be able to enter back into the dream totally lucid. SP is a great gateway to lucid dreaming if you can remember to remain calm and direct yourself back into a dream.
If you're just sick of SP all together, gently fiddle with your sleep schedule until you find the perfect number of hours of sleep for you. I think an adjusted sleep schedule can eventually rid you of SP.
Other than that, I don't know exactly how to avoid waking up half awake in SP, which means all the afore mentioned advice is probably useless to you. :content:
Anyway, again, welcome and if my advice turns out to be totally useless... remember it's the thought that counts. I thought I might be able to help. I should get a gold star for trying.

sorry Phydeaux. No MINISTRY fan. Just chose the nickname randomly. Maybe I should become one just to avoid future confusion... :P
Thanks Vex Kitten. Your advice is very usefull. I'm going to try that reentering my dream part. SP can be quite a scary experience :( Don't think it can be avoided altogether. Just getting away from it as soon as possible would be really great.

SP was scary for me too. I always thought I was on the brink of dying so I'd struggle to move again. Once in a great while I'd be able to calm myself and simply re enter the dream I'd just been having or even create a new dream to slip into. The more I did this the less frightening SP became. I never did adjust to it, it was always a bit scary on some level but I came to learn to control most of the fear and utilize the SP.
Good luck with your post SP dreams.

One thing that I've found helpful is to not try to force your way out of hypnagogia. I usually just think about waking up, or about my body's surroundings. I also try to ignore whatever hallucinations there are; it seems like they feed off of attention. I've never managed to descend into a dream from SP, so I can't tell you anything about that.

just a quick question on sleep paralysis
when I was younger I used to wake up from mid day naps(only mid day naps, not normal sleep) and be unable to open my eyes for a good while
I hated it
