If in a dream you meet somebody, is there any chance that that person will dream meeting you, too?
Better yet...
how do you know if you really exist? Maybe YOU are the dream character, and your whole life is someone else's dream.
now go eat some mushrooms.
hahaha, mushrooms'll do that to you
Short answer: No.
When you dream, you are completely isolated inside your own head - there is no known way of communicating directly with another person's mind. Unless you believe in that sort of thing. But no, there is no scientific basis for shared dreaming.
There is certainly a "chance" but it's just that: chance. There's no proof (besides the rare anecdote) of any "shared dreaming" sessions. Most of those that people have thought were were only incubated dreams, dreams that happen to involve each other or dreams that actually occurred at different times - not true shared or congruent experiences.
I can vouch that I myself have had a shared dream and that I can vouch for interaction with another individual on at least 2 occasions. Even better is that I can account for interaction with one individual that I made no mention of to my friend, who incountered the exact same individual.
It is my beleif that not only is shared dreaming possible, it has a perfectly logical and scientific basis behind it, albeit extremely difficult to put into practise. On another site I have had at least 4 complete strangers tell me of interactions with 2 common groups that share dreams with each other on a daily basis.
So in my beleif, yes, it is possible, and happens daily, even though many dont even know
Sanzora, I am a skeptic, but i am interested in hearing just what scientific principle you believe is behind shared dreaming.
If you are skeptic, I doubt i'd be able to convince you. It works on a similar principle to Telepathy and the likes, harnessing the ability to attune yourself with another person's brainwave frequency, as every person has a different frequency of thought (both consciously and subconsciously). If you manage to allign frequencies with them on a subconscious level, then you should be able to share a dream.
I'mnot asking anyone to believe me, all I'm saying is that I beleive it is possible and true ^_^
It varies... there is mental training but I'm afraid I haven't gone into it too deeply. The previously mentioned individual my friend and I encountered is a DreamWalker and he explained the principles to me, but I don't practice Dream Walking, I just know it's possible.
I can beleive in your theory but I don't beleive you can train to change your brainwave frequence.
that's cool - did't expect you to convince me i was just interested
thanks
No.
Just to add about the small "chance" I remember listening to an old radio interview with Stephen Laberge talking about the same topic. Someone had called in saying he have had a dream where he met this girl in a club and when a few weeks or x amount of days he saw the same girl in an airport and the girl recognized him from the same dream. Laberge only had to say if I can remember correctly that it was finding your true soul mate and it very rare but possible but heh.. Again the whole situation of the same people meeting in a dream rare.
I've also heard about dream walking but haven't much tried to do it but people say they have done it.
I don't know maybe I'm just naive  but I believe that somewhere down the line it could be possible. *thinks about quote from waking life."
"that one is a dream figure...in another person's dream, that is self-awareness."
I think it's true. Every single one of us is connected through our minds somehow. I tried doing this with someone before, it failed. -_- I think it's because I still can't nail getting a regular LD down. You should ask someone if they want to share dreams too, it might end up working. :]
