An out of body experience is the practice of entering the ethereal plane and leaving your physical location, hence "out of body".
Dreams and lucid dreams as well are all within the body, more so, within the mind. There is no difference in technicalities between regular dreams and lucid dreams, only in mental aspects, such as being aware of dreaming leading to lucidity.
I believe that lucids, particularly a certain kind (which I've experienced time and again) where you seem to "get up" right out of your body, are mistaken for OBEs.
In my case, I've tested this hypothesis and it is not OBE. Lucids are no more OBE than any other dream. If you like acronyms, you could call them IYHEs... Inside Your Head Experiences.
IMHO, YMMV, etc., etc., amen.
a lucid dream is normal not an oob, but if your good at having long dreams you could practice leaving your body
So what your saying is theres IS a distinct difference between lucid dreaming and OBE's? hmm interesting :D I wasnt sure.
Yes, there are completely two different things being referred to regarding OBE's and LD's.
OBE's refer to a metaphysical, astral, or spiritual entity physically moving about which occurs during a deep metitation or sleep.
Lucid Dreams are defined simply as being aware that you're dreaming. That's it, no spiritual or metaphysical strings attached (no pun intended).
The confusion sometimes lies in that some believe that the experience of an OBE is really a lucid dream about leaving the body. Likewise, those OBE die-hard fans can say that lucid dreaming is the person believing they are dreaming when in fact they are leaving their body and passing through different dimensions, universes, etc.
Interpretation is up to the individual of which is fact, however, the definitions themselves of what an OBE and LD are remain clear - two different things.
