      Tried WILD lastnight... help please

Hey, I'd like some help with my WILD attempts please.

Okay, so last night I went to bed (didn't get 5-7 hrs of sleep, that was probably a mistake) and I easily got right into the relaxation stage, and by 30 mins or so my body was completely motionless and it was going numb. I never saw any type of hypnogogia or hallucinations or anything, I just ended up giving up after about an hour as my limbs were starting to get sore and painful from being in the same position.

The only movements I was doing for the 45 mins or so that I was completely motionless was my throat, where I had to swallow every so often because of my very f***ed up sinus condition. Would this have staved off the WILD? What else could I do or am I doing wrong?

      Thanks!

The swallowing could indeed have kept you out of it.

Another possibility is that you were asleep and dreaming of laying there awake. No joke. Where you doing reality checks at all during that hour? It would be a shame to waste a lucid dream laying in one spot, but it happens!

One method suggested a few months back is laying in a position where you can see one of your hands, and open your eyes every so often to count the fingers. It's a low impact way of doing it without otherwise moving.

Yeah the swallowing would probably have done it. Try breathing through your mouth to avoid that.

      Thanks for the responses.

So I really could've been dreaming without knowing I had entered one? Isn't there some sort of "crossover" experience that people have? I was conscious the whole hour so I don't think I missed anything. I could still hear the furnace creaking so I think I was still awake. And when I finally gave up after the hour I did do some reality checks then and I was awake.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Especially when WILDing, which is deliberately holding on to a "thread of consciousness" while falling asleep, I've been startled many times to discover that I was already asleep and dreaming. It CAN happen without any indication at all.

That doesn't mean this is what happened to you - I'm just pointing out the possibility.
