The technique has NEVER worked for me, and i am starting to question its truth. I dont think it is possible to be fully conscious throughout the entire transition stage.
Ive never even experienced paralysis. Can somebody who has experienced a TEXTBOOK WILD describe it with some specific details. I already know "how" to do it, but the actual experience is a mystery to me. Thanks in advance
Well lets see you are in a confortable position while keeping focus/awareness until you feel a dream state coming on.
Basically you focus on breathing and you will notice your body becomes heavy, but don't move. Once your body is very heavy, your breathing will become slow deep.
Once that has happened you are very close to going into a dream. At this point images, pictures, moving pictures like a movie may begin to play in your head. Keep a light focus on these and try to manipulate them or allow them to continue, but still keep your awareness going.
A short while after this you should be in a lucid dream.
you make it sound so simple! lol I've only just begun to work towards lucidity, but in the past anytime I've ever napped during the day I nearly always encounter the "Symptoms" (if you will) of a WILD. I remember it freaking me out at that time, as I had no idea what the experience was. Now I need to try and actually focus it...I think I'll go and give it a try now!
it seems to me that the experience alone would wake me up on the spot. I think that when i try to do it i am just too conscious, if that makes sense.
WILD is a difficult technique for most people, to say the least! Of course there are some "naturals", but this is rare. I just wanted to point that out, as it's incredibly difficult to resist being discouraged with WILD.
WILD is most definately possible, I promise. I have very poor dream recall and have LDed only about 5-6 times in my life, if that! Still, one of those LD's was a WILD.
I think one of the contributing factors to WILDs difficulty is the vast amount of methods and tutorials there are on the subject, which says something about WILD's nature. Different things work for different people. For instance, when I actually WILDed, it was not focus on breathing or any other such thing that allowed my body to fall asleep. Quite honesty, my mind was wandering like crazy! I wasn't even attempting WILD; I was simply as relaxed as possible.
Something to try: After waking up early once, decide if you feel you could fall asleep within ten minutes or less again. If you feel you could, get up and do something for maybe 15 minutes. Maybe use the restroom, drink some water, etc... something to make you feel better. Then, just lie down and try to relax as much as possible. Don't even think of it as a WILD attempt or fancy technique... I find that treating it as such often is detrimental to success. Just relax, but keep trying to observe that moment between your body being asleep and awake.
The key is not getting too hyped up about it being an offical WILD, and thus over-focusing and worrying if you're "doing it right", etc... Just try to let you body relax more than you have ever let it before, while letting your mind just be "there".
I dunno if this helps, but keep trying, no matter what! It's totally possible, and if I can do it, anybody can!
I've done it once; its the first entry in my dream journal here. That was with WBTB (wake early & stay up for a while first), which is essential, at least to start with.
Vex Kitten's amazing dream journal here has a WILD a few pages back (you could search user=Vex Kitten, section=Dream Journal, keyword=WILD, and of course there's probably more if you search on all users).
It does exist. It is pretty damn cool. But it's really challenging. TANSTAAFL :-P.
Unfortunately I don't have a link to an impeccable peer reviewed article substantiating WILD :-). Not as good as what LaBerge did with MILD and DreamLights anyway.
