I'd assume it can help. It would be similar to a prolonged WBTB. WBTB is where someone would sleep for about 4 hours, get up for about 10-15 minutes and do a little bit, and go back to bed. This would cause REM periods to be closer together and cause more vivid dreaming.
It would be the same in that case I presume. I would think it could help fall asleep easier, as you wouldn't be getting the full amount the body requires, but still enough to go about your day.
Something you may like looking into that has been popping up quite a bit lately around here, is Polyphasic Sleep. Really effective if you have the time for it. Though its difficult to achieve.
Yes, it's supposed to be a lot easier to WILD with naps, but I don't know if it will actually help you sleep better at night.
