is there a correlation of lucid dreams and sleep paralysis?

First of all, I should say i never had sleep paralysis when awaken and only 1 short lucid dream very recently.

Is there a correlation between lucid dreaming and sleep paralysis? are you more likely to have sleep paralysis after a lucid dream? are you overall more likely to have sleep paralysis because you have more lucid dreams and/or you think about having a lucid dream before dozing off?

I don't plan on having sleep paralysis. Being paralyzed accompanied with hallucinations doesn't sound pleasant to me. The night after the lucid dream, I was trying to tell myself things in order to be more able to get a lucid dream and I got some feelings I don't remember ever having and seems like if I was about to head into paralysis if I didn't snap out of it (happened a few times, one after the other):
_My body doing a involuntary jerk
_Feeling kind of heavier as if gravity was around 1.5 G
_increased heartbeat rate (my guess around 100-110)
_some sort of tingling/goosebump/mild electricity (can't really describe it) going thru my body.
_an uneasy and mildly scared feeling


PS: I had a few times an intense "falling sensation" after waking up from a vivid dream ... is that related?

PS2: My dream recall is probably above average.

Well, you get SP whenever you dream, to keep you from acting it out while you sleep, you just don't notice it. The kind of thing you are referring to is commonly called 'old hag' (from people waking up seeing a witch-like person sitting on their chest) where you happen to wake up not being able to move and hallucinating. That happens when SP hasn't completely worn off. Here's more detailed info. It does say a possible cause is when '' A lucid dream immediately precedes the episode. Also conscious induction of sleep paralysis is a common technique to enter a state of lucid dreams, also known as WILD.'' But you have to remember that it can't hurt you. It's all in your head.

I've never woken up from a dream unable to move, but I have woken up and seen a flash of something that frightened me for an instant. Most recent was when I thought I saw something leaping at me and I yelled, "WHAT IS THAT!?" out loud.

To be honest, I wasn't really stressed afterwards. It helped me get up and going faster so I was happy it happened other than the embarrassment of yelling stuff out at 5 in the morning.

Well, maybe I could learn to suppress the fear associated with SP.

I have a question, are those symptoms I listed in the initial post of this thread the sensations that one feels when beginning sleep paralysis before falling asleep rather than after? If so, if I stayed my cool, did I have a chance to get a lucid dream in the way of an out of body experience?

Notes:
_I felt confident that I would have a lucid dream before it happened.
_I forcefully snapped out of those sensations.
_I never had anything like this, except for maybe falling sensations "after" waking up

zitro, what you listed in the beginning always happens to me. I think its natural. I kindof enjoy it, because its a different feeling im not used to. I think after a while you will get used to it, I was intimidated at first, but now I know what to expect. Just stay relaxed and confident.
