What, and how far is this? (WILD)

I have been reading up on WILDing and trying to test it a bit during my afternoon naps.

So this is how it goes;

I'm laying there on my back with my arms by my sides and no crossed legs - as comfortable as I can get. The room holds a good and nice temperature, no freezing, no over heating. Now I try to let everything go, all thoughts in my head, creating a pure blank void - usually it helps when concentrating on whatever minor, minor change of light there is behind my eyelids. And I say quietly to myself, but with the strongest intent, what my goals are for this nap; that I want to experience a lucid dream as well as remembering what I've dreamt as I wake up.

Then I just lay there, trying to focus on nothing. Only a few minutes later, I'm getting these very short quick dreams - it's like miniature dreams, like watching trailers before the movie starts. I see a short sequence where I might be somewhere, doing something and then, after only a minute or two, those scenes are pushed away, they just disappear and I'm like "Hey, what was that just now?" as I'm back watching my eyelids. It feels almost like waking up even though it never felt as I went dreaming off... (NOT to be confused with False Awakenings - because these short trailer-dreams are MANY times lighter and much much more shallow than the real dreams).
All this time I've been laying perfectly still and not opened my eyes once!

The exact thing has happened for three days in a row now during my afternoon naps and today, it got a little bit further;

As I went back from one of those shallow 90 sec trailer dreams, I suddenly felt very warm all over my body - not uncomfortably warm though, a feeling I can not recall having had before. And then there were some mildly flashing lights infront of my eyes (NOT coming from outside though!), I could also feel my heart beating stronger and heavier. That was completely new to me and I guess I must have gotten a bit too excited or something - think I made the mistake of trying to concentrate on those lights. I remembered shortly after that those lights were to be viewed passively, like watching a TV, sort of.

Right then, I heard this VERY soft *click* from my insulin-pump (since I'm a diabetic) - and that's when I realized that the rush was probably over. It was such a low and very faint sound which the pump makes, and if I could hear that - I couldn't be very far off. So I just opened my eyes, started to move my hands and that was it.


Does all this mean anything? I mean, those very short mini-dreams, are those real dreams (even though they feel SOOO shallow) or is it a part you're passing through when WILDing? What should I have done different (where I see my main problem is getting a bit too excited)?

I would be very thankful if someone could clear this up for me a bit!

you're basically there...normally for me it happens mabye about 4 times when I'm trying to wild...I just stay relaxed and bam. I'm in there. but it's different for everyone, but for me either I go directly into the directly into the dream after those "trailer dreams", or i'll go into a normal dream with a good chance to DILD. Just keep at it man...theres really nothing I can tell you other than that. oh and that could have been a form of "hypnagogic imagery" or HI...even the sound of your insulin pump could have been hypnagogic. Sometimes I'll hear my tv turn on...open my eyes and see thats it's still off. HOpe this help. if not, the next poster will help you out.

Yeah it was HI for sure. Just try to stay calm and not lose consciousness. There will eventually be a point that you reach where you can move your dream body around, but you will still not be in full paralysis. When you reach this point, it is helpful to interact with the HI as it becomes stable. It is very important to make sure you do not do this prematurely: make sure it is your dream body moving and not just you visualizing movement, which amounts to no more than thinking and ruins the whole deal. In fact, it may be better to wait until you have successfully WILDed a few times.

Generally I will run around the room (if I am in one) and punch everything in sight, running and jumping and ducking etc. What this does is put all of your attention on the delicate dream so as to induce full paralysis. In about 30 seconds you should feel a tingling in your spine and the dream will become solid; this is accompanied by a full transition of your consciousness which is undeniable.

Thank you both very much for your inputs! You have cleared things up for me and I'm a bit joyed over the fact that I actually got somewhat close to the real deal. At least I know that I'm on the right track.

I guess the most difficult part will be to stay calm and relaxed when all these final things occurs - considering it will be the first time for me and I don't know the feelings of what I have to expect.

The mini dreams are a part of WILDing. I have a few before actually slipping into a LD.

Sounds to me like you were right on the verge of entering a dream. I don't know what to say other than try to ignore the sounds or use the sounds as a guage that lets you know you're almost there.

I heard a little girl talking to me once when I started falling asleep. I thought, Hey, there's no one in the house except me. As soon as I realized it was a hypnogogic sound it stopped and I went right into a lucid dream. Don't focus on the sounds or images too much, just a fleeting attention will do, then remind yourself to lucid dream.

Thing with my WILDs is I sort of 'wake up' in a lucid dream, still laying in my bed in the same position as I fell asleep. I suspect Im dreaming but sometimes am not entirely sure. That's where reality checks come in handy. Find one that you think will work for you. They come in handy in DILDs too. I like the nose plug check. It always works.
