      lucid dream turning on me

hello, i've always been able to control my dreams from the early ages of 7-8. Alot of people i have told have been jelous of this (and so they should be :p) but it all really started because I was suffering from horrific nightmares and usually crying myself to sleep. So I suppose there was no other way but train myself to control my dreams, and from the ages of 7-8 to current day (22) my nightmares have been once in a blue moon, and if I know I am entering a nightmare I usually pull myself out of it.

However the other night I was having a lucid dream which typically involves me wondering around country fields with a lovely young lass by my side when all of a sudden the blue sky turns to a dark orange and i'm in a middle of a city much like manchester (England), it seems to be a new world war everything is on fire and there are soldiers and tanks everywhere. Within a matter of seconds a soldier comes up to me and shoots me in the neck, killing me. Now usually I would have woken myself up way before any of this happens, but I am not able, and everything is dark for what seems 5-10 seconds. I wake up not being able to breath.

The next day the same thing happens during a lucid dream, this time I enter the same city and its the same scene except this time an atomic bomb blows up and its all white for a few seconds.

My mind hasn't been able to get over the dreams because they were caused while I was having lucid dreams, and from being able to control it, to been taken over so quickly is horrible.

Anyway just thought I had to share it with everyone, hopefully it will make me feel abit better.

Has anyone else had simular stories?

I have had dreams about war and the end of the world. This for me, like you, was the catalyst for my lucid dreams.

I have alwayss been able to wake from the dreams when needed - a good method is to shut your eyes in the dream. Normally works for me

Well a lucid dream suddenly turning into a nightmare is not uncommon. For me it's usually preceded by the thought, "Hey, this is going so well, I hope [insert terrible scenario here] doesn't happen." And then it does. To wake up I shut my eyes and open them really quickly with force. Or you could just fight off teh tanks or zombies or psychos or sharks or whatever. I usually prefer the latter.

well usually I would, but this just completely overpowered me and first reaction is just to try and wake up.

About the closing the eyes and re-opening them. Thats a good one, I have never tried that. I usually just tell my brain to open my eyes. :p
