I only seem to do them when I can't convince myself it is a dream. So I will be semi lucid, and think it must be a dream and RC just to confirm. And I think this is what most people do anyway.
You best chances would be to try pick out your dream signs, and then RC to these through out the day, and get used to questioning the scenario where your dream signs are present :)
Yea, when it comes to RC I don't think it's enough to do it randomly. You need a dream sign that goes along with it so it can TRIGGER your subconcious to do a RC.
As the others have said, try to do them when you come accross your dream signs, that helps a lot. Doing RCs randomly throughout the day of course helps. I've made it a habit of mine to do them when I see my hands (my hands being slightly deformed is a dream sign of mine anyway), so when I look down I'll do a check such as counting my fingers or trying to stick my finger through the palm of my hand. Try to make reality checks a real habit in day-to-day life and even moreso when you spot dream signs.
I had the same problem as you. Naturally I'm just not very aware in my dreams and have only occasionally questioned if I was dreaming.
My advice is think about how you dream. Are your dreams as vivid as real-life and you feel awake in them? Or do your dreams feel as if it's a television program playing out in front of your eyes and you are powerless to change it?
If you are the latter then maybe you would be better suited to Wild or similar techniques.
