so last night was the first LD i have ever had. when i became lucid i had remembered to look at the sky because ive heard it was brilliant, and it was. then i tried the spinning technique to disorient myself and end up somewhere else. that worked also. but when i tried it again i ended up waking. i dont know if this was due to excitement or what but it only lasted maybe 30 minutes. is it just practice to prolong these? or is there something else?
It's a little crude...but being really tired and desperately needing REM sleep can help prolong lucid dreams. It makes you harder to wake up if you do get excited.
You could try rubbing your hands together or touching an object in the dream whenever you start slipping out of it. It's good for stabilizing dreams too. :)
30 minutes seems like a long LD!! Longest I've had was 5!!
Yeah, 30 minutes is actually pretty long... so congratulations! :party:
Other than experimenting with time dilation, I don't think dreams actually last much longer than that.

I know when I first become lucid, I have to fight that initial rush of adrenalin. I do this by telling myself to calm down, breathing naturally (or a little slower) and I try to "ground" myself in the dream (i.e., make it as lucid as it can be) instead of immediately racing to do something before I lose lucidity.
One of the tricks I use to "ground" myself is to "touch" things. By touching.. I mean really "feeling" them. Get into how they feel.. are they hot, cold, smooth, rough, etc. (this also increases the vividness of the dream along with helping me remain in it longer).
You may also try to increase your vividness by confidently stating aloud "increase lucidity" or "clarity now".
Just remember that "the deeper the level of lucidity.. the better your lucid experience should be"
