As I said in my recent thread about "Conquering External Influence of Sleep" - I only need five hours of sleep, but I like to (and feel better) with 6-7.
The amount of sleep each person needs depends on many factors, namely age. Infants generally require about 16 hours a day, while teenagers need about 9 hours on average. For most adults, 7 to 8 hours a night appears to be the best amount of sleep, although some people, such as myself, may need as few as 5 hours or as many as 10 hours of sleep each day.
I thought this website to be interesting in regards to this:
Sleep Less, live longer?
Hope it is enlightening.
Well, if i get less than 8 i'm not really on my 'game' for the rest of the day, usually...and i would say that to have great dreams, people should get at least 8 hours...because REM only starts about 5 hours into sleep...
7 is the optimum for me. Any less and I am sleepy. More and I am lethargic. It is actually better for me to under-sleep than over-sleep.
If i sleep over 10 hours, i usually get a headache the size of montana. It sucks.Quote:

Hmm, I can sleep 18 hrs a day if I could... done it :)
only its counter-productive because I get so lazy that I dont even write in my dream journal.
Haha that reminds me, I have a friend who slept 22 hours straight (from 6 pm to 4 pm the next day!). :shock:Quote:

I usualy get about 6 hours sleep a night.
From what I have read and heard over time O'nus hit it right on the head!
And I agree with Seeker as well. - About over sleeping.
I think your body can adjust to some degree on how much sleep you get. Somtimes I think adults don't push themselves hard enough. This may sound odd but the better shape I am in the better my sleep is and in return I do not need as much. :whyme:
A friend of mine requires about 14 hours of sleep a day. But he does act like an infant, which could explain his sleep patterns.
I, however, need only about 8 hours of sleep. The more sleep I get, the more tired I am though.
I wish there was a more definite answer to give on the amount of sleep required for each individual, but the exact physiological regulation of sleep is unknown; it is just theorised.
The most typical (and what I am inclined to believe) is that a chemical called adenosine builds up over time during wake-periods and sleep quells the overwhelming amounts. However, how this chemical is co-related with age and other peripherals is not a fact yet..
:whyme:
I'm an insomniac, so I only get a couple hours here and there. But when I DO get a "good night's sleep" it's usually around 8 hours.
9 hrs is a good amount for me (and im a teenager so im on the average).
i wish i was one of those who only need 5 hrs tho... hmm i wonder if i can get those anti-sleep pills somewhere... :?
i get 6 or sometimes less, i am 15 :o
i just dont feel tired until about 1am, maybe i should try to tire myself out more, my day is usually sitting down alot becuase i got school ect
During the work week I sleep about 6-7 hours a night, on weekends it can get to between 8-12 hours. Usually only one night over the weekend is over 8 hours, typically its Friday night. Then again that's after a week of staying up late and working.
Maybe I shouldn't pour so much energy into my worklife!
