Hello, time to introduce myself.

Hello.
I am Ham or Turkey, call me Ham, ok? That's what I'm used to being called anyway.
I found this place about a week ago, when I was searching for ways to remember dreams more often. I found out about something strange called "lucid dreaming" at the same time, it seems interesting, but it probably takes a lot of time to learn, or master.
But then again I'm only 15 years old, lots of years to live left, so I'm very confident that I one day will learn lucid dreaming.

I've already read some of your guides, so I now do Reality Checks every now and then. Probably not enough of them, though. It's so easy to forget.
I also have some pieces of paper and a pen beside my bed and I wrote down 2 dreams 5 days ago. Haven't been able to remember any more dreams after that time... I need to try harder, I guess.

When I was younger I used to remember many dreams, but now I almost never remember any, so I was really excited when I remembered 2 dreams in one night. But then, my mother told me that she almost always remember her dreams. It's unfair.

You are doing all the right things. Keep trying and I am sure you will have lots of lucid dreams. I wish I would have found out about lucid dreaming when I was 15, so you are lucky (both of you.)

I wouldn't wory that because your mother doesn't remember dreams you won't either. If you make an effort, you will be able to.

Anyway... writing down dreams is a very good move, though you may want to get a notepad or something more substantial to write them in.

Don't worry about recall... if you continue with our efforts to write the dreams down and try and remember them when you (immediately) wake up and at various points through the day, it'll undoubtedly increase.

If I use an alarm clock for waking up in the middle of the night, how am I supposed to remember my dreams? Those dreams 5 days ago, I used an alarm clock first, but I didn't remember anything, so I turned it off and went back to sleep. I remembered reading somewhere that thinking about waking up and remembering dreams after every REM period works, so I tried that and it worked! It seemed so easy, but I haven't been able to do it again, and that troubles me...

And now I remember a second question.
I tried WILD yesterday, I wanted to at least try it, and I think I managed to become lucid, because for a few seconds I managed t breathe through my nose, while pinching my nose closed. Then, suddenly I couldn't do it anymore. I looked at my hands, and my alarm clock, but everything looked normal. What happened there?

I tried this the other night, Ham: I emptied my bladder and then drank lots of water just before bed. I woke up with a dry throat about 3-4 hours in and needing to use the restroom. I did so, and while I was getting up and going I tried to remember everything that I had dreamt about, and when I returned to my bed before I went back to sleep I wrote down some key details. Actually, all I wrote down was "Giant bunnies partnered with Native Americans. Also, something about being 'from a dream.'" and the time I had woken up. Then I went back to sleep. Partway through the night I felt I was getting a little empty so I downed another glass.

Every so often I'd wake up, need to use the restroom, do so, and remember a dream. None of my others actually were anything other than a mishmash of images, but I remembered them and could have written them down if there was anything.

I usually find I remember my last dream before waking quite naturally, but I've despised using an alarm clock to wake myself up on time for school because it almost always forces me to forget the dream in the effort exerted to turn it off. However, your body naturally waking yourslf up to do something, like use the restroom, doesn't seem to disturb your sleep cycle the way an alarm clock will, or at least it doesn't do so to mine. In the morning, I may have gotten up several times uring the night, but I'm refreshed. Plus, its healthy to drink that much water.

I've never remembered more than one dream in my life a night, but last night by doing this I remembered 5: the first one, the middle ones that weren't coherent enough to record in the notebook, and my last one. *points to the last post in her Dream Journal* No doubt it won't have the same amount of success for every night, but I'm certain it will increase my dream recall more often beause of the massive success I had this time.

By the way, what you said about telling yourself to wake up after every REM cycle, works the same way. My internal clock just isn't good enough for me to do so, as I have no sense of time. I can tell myself to wake up in a few hours, and the next thing I know I'm hearing my room-mate getting up at 7:00 AM and myself tells me blearily: "Huh? Wuh? Has it been three hours yet?" I have to rely on my more regular 'water clock', if you get my meaning. If you're able to get yourself to wake up at certain times by teling yourself to do so, you may just want to do the drinking thing until you get in the habit of waking up frequently, then your better internal clock might keep you on better time than mine will without the need to walk down the hall to the bathroom every hour or two. ^^;

Of course...This is probably a situation of the blind leading the blind. *stumbles about* Oh, hello, Ham. I've only been here 2 days but you know, you should try this. XD.

Um... Yeah Clairity but, as I said, I have already read through most of the guides here.

I'll try Forynia's suggestion next night, I just couldn't remember my dreams by trying to convince myself to do so. I hope 10 glasses of water will be enough.

This morning when I woke up, I felt tired so I tried to FILD (it seems so simple) and I'm almost sure I had a lucid dream. The problem is I can't remember it, and if I still can't remember it an hour later, I know I will never remember it. Damn.

By the way, it's snowing.

Hey, Forynia, that water drinking thing didn't help. It only made me feel sick. Luckily my bladder control is perfect.

I'm going to try doing exactly as I did it when I remembered dreams a week ago, it has to work!

For your recall, I would actually suggest not trying so hard. Just take a week where you take a minute or two in the morning to lay in bed and remember your dreams. It's the kind of thing that comes with time and practice more than anything. Hell, it took me over a month to finally establish any kind of recall, but I seem to be one of the slower people here.

I don't really have time to stay in bed thinking about my dreams, I have to get up and hurry to catch the bus, I always forget to think about my dreams when I wake up. Maybe I should go to sleep earlier so that I wake up earlier?

And a month, really? Well everybody is different, who knows, it could take a year for me to develop a good recall if I continue like this...

You don't need all that much time. Literally, take 60 seconds to lay there and try to remember, then 30 seconds to write down a couple of one word bullets so you can remember and write it in detail when you get home. If an extra 90 seconds will really screw up your routine, try and wake up two minutes earlier.

But extra sleep does always help. The main reason I was in a slump for most of last month was that I just wasn't sleeping enough.

Hello Ham and Welcome to Dreamviews.
A person who has never had a LD needs to focus on the basic skills first. Improve your Dream recall by keeping a comprehensive journal. It starts off slow but your dream recall will improve with the journal.
Secondly, but probably more important is doing reality checks. You have to make it a habit so that you will automatically do one during a dream. How often? At least every half hour.

DONT try to LD yet. Get good at dream recall and RC's and let the LD come to you. When you try to LD and fail, you will become frustrated and disappointed and that will inhibit your ability to LD.

If you read about most people's first LD, it came without trying and a lot of the time, after giving up trying. Once you become good at the basics and have achieved LD, you can start on different methods of inducing an LD.

Thats my two bits worth.

I'm never going to use an alarm clock again... I was about to remember the dream before I heard the alarm. When I had turned off the alarm I had already forgotten every part of the dream I had managed to recall. Plus, I was so angry that I couldn't fall asleep no matter what I tried.

Thanks for the welcome. Ok, I'll decide later when a good time to start trying LD's is.
And if what you say is true, I'm probably not even doing half of the Reality Checks I should do. Does that mean it will take much longer for me to learn? But I guess I'll start remembering to do them more often after a few weeks.

By the way, my dream journal is almost empty, what am I supposed to write in it when I remember nothing?

Recall is probably the easiest step. If you try to remeber your dreams every day, I guarantee you will be able to recall a few every night in only a couple weeks.

You'll have to better than a few reality checks a day. That will get you no where. You should do one at least every 30 minutes.

Remembering to do reality checks is not what I'm concentrating on right now. I want to get better dream recall first. For example, all I remembered from this night was an image of two different kinds of locks. That's bad, right?

Luckily I don't have to go to school for the rest of this week, so maybe I can try remembering dreams harder now. Tomorrow is Finland's Independence day, he he, and it's special. 90 years of independence = Thursday and Friday free from school!
