Getting killed

I'm so glad I found this site. I've been experimenting with lucid dreams for a while now, but most of my techniques have come from trail and error.

Anyhoo, my questions revolves around the fact that I often get killed in my dreams. A lot. In the most painful ways too. But whats odd is when I get killed, I'm more than often protrayed as another person. Be it another gender, age, or race. Why though? I feel the pain and I experience the emotions, but so far, I have no idea why my brain would go so far and give me another...body to die in.

Well to me anyway it's quite normal, my ego normally places me in other bodies during dreams. It's about 50/50 me being myself and being someone/thing else.

I die, not a lot, but it's not unusual.

Funny thing with death in dreams is that you can experience it in so many ways. Some people experience it from another person's point of view, some people end up becoming "ghosts".

I, myself, just wake up with a hypnotic jerk.

I think it's easier to "die" if you are someone else. Your subconscious possibly can't handle watching yourself die, so it puts you in someone else's body.

One of my plans is to attempt killing myself. It'll have to be some sort of quick thing, otherwise I probably won't go through it. Summon one of those huge wood chippers or something.

And its not from suicidal thought (I'd cut others before myself), its just to experience it and see what your subconscious comes up with after.

I'd find it hilarious if after you die in a dream you go to your own "heaven" or whatever your religion says.

Oh, I forgot to add that. I think death is lumped with walking through walls and other things that we have learned and accepted to be in impossible. Of course death isn't impossible, but dying and somehow witnessing from another existance...

Just like walls, its probably something that requires a shift in your established lines of thought to achieve.

I'm afraid in the short time of falling, I'll end up saving myself in some stupid way. I'm too much of a survivalist. Thats why I like the wood chipper idea, there's no going back after that leap.

I used to have reoccurring dreams of me falling off a mountain. They were cool, despite the sudden jolt I'd get just before I hit the bottom.

Yep. Once you're falling, you can't stop yourself. It's a HUGE rush. I always wake up either right after, or a few seconds after I hit the ground.

I usually float out of my body for awhile after the impact...then usually fade to black or white.

Hm. Sounds better than a wood chipper. Will try that...

When I die it's usually by a monster in a very painful way, like my spine is crushed. There really is real pain in dreams...

AspiR.. why don't you take care of two of your lucid goals at once and get killed by an enraged husband? ;)

I believe I only died in my dreams... three times? Maybe a bit more, but it was always after some sort of battle, like a machine gunner from WWII in the school cafeteria or a Spike Vs. Vicious match up, in which I was Spike and Vicious was someone else.

But I would always find peace. Like, after I get shot/stabbed, I'd deliver the final blow to the opponent and then after their gone, I just smile and close my eyes. Then I wake up.

Battling Freddy Krueger was fun when he found out I could not die :mwahaha:

I think that's the main reason. But in one particular I had, I was stabbed in the stomach with a hypodermic needle. I felt the pain of it happening. I wonder why my mind would let me feel that, but not look like myself. Wouldn't it be better if it was the other way around?

Anywho, it's true that in dreams, when we get punched or kicked, stabbed or shoved, etc. we feel it. It could be that moment where our brain can not tell the difference that maybe, just maybe, this is really happening and so, the pain receptors pick up on the feeling.

Maybe your an Empath on the side?

Well Jericho, that's about the long and short of it.

Anybody who says, "You can't experience this, you can feel that in dreams" doesn't dream very vividly.

Wind: blowy
Water: wet
Fire: burns
Punch: hurts
etc, etc

Now once you've made the effort to experience wind, the next thing to do is make the effort to feel the wind moving your hair around.. or you get wet, you make the effort to stay wet and drip.. etc..

details details details, they're all there if you put your mind to it.

Luckily enough a split second before i am ever about to die, i wake up...
For example i had a really short dream, it started with me falling of a 50 story building or so. and right before i got pasted, i woke up.
The fear after i wake up still scares the hell out of me....
except this one time i didn't wake up no matter how hard i tried. It was a gruesome sight especially since i play mortal kombat :shock:
