A WILD question
First of all, Hi!
I've visited the site before and read the tutorials but I'm new to the forums.
I've been experiencing with WILD for a little while now but have never managed to succeed.
But something weird has happened twice (once a few weeks ago and now again on this morning)..
Both times were in similar circumstances- I had the chance to sleep in and had already woken up 2 or 3 times.
Now when drifting off again all of a sudden I hear a loud sound and black and white stripes start flashing in my vision faster and faster.
I was quite awake already since it had already been about 2 hours from my normal wake up time so the first time I could only sustain it for like 10 seconds or so.
But the second time (today) I think I might have managed 30-40 seconds.
The question is, what was the phenomenon? Was I on the edge of a WILD?
I didn't experience SP.
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!
Firstly WILD are hard so before you really try to attempt them you should realise the difficulty that comes with them!
You seem to be on the edge of SP as you experienced what looks like hallucinations and audio, a little longer and you most likely would have gotten paralyzed which in turn would have resulted in a WILD. So congrats in a way!

Hello and welcome to Dream Views.
It sounds as if you were creeping up on a lucid dream. I don't usually 'experience' the sleep paralysis or any of strange sensations that others experience when they begin to have a WILD.
It is possible to just slip right into a lucid dream without even knowing it, the transition can be that smooth. Sometimes I wonder if I'm dreaming yet and simply will myself to float off of the bed. If I don't float up I conclude that i'm not asleep. If I do float upward.. well it's obvious I'm dreaming.
Keep at it. Sounds as if you're getting closer.

Hey welcome to the forum.
As above sounds to me like it was a little Hypnagogic Imagery/Sounds often referred to here as HI or HS. You should have a look around the Attaining Lucidity forums and the tutorials for more information on the WILD technique :)

Ok, I've been practicing and have gotten a bit better at it.
I can get to this stage on most of the days and even further.
The HI get's more intense and I feel my body being pulled up, into the air.
Figure I must be close..
But the thing is that I've never managed to stay asleep after that..
I don't know what it is that makes me wake up.. There are two thing that are seriously distracting- I can hear myself breathing and my heartrate goes up.
I don't know if theese are the reasons for me waking up but they aren't helping, that's fore sure..
So anyway.. Am I doing anything wrong or what?
-
Well, I have yet to make it to this stage, but I would say just calm yourself. Try and remind yourself that none of it is real. You need to slow your heart rate, or you'll wake up/fall asleep.
-
Well the thing is that I was as calm as ever.
I knew nothing of it was real and told myself that but it didn't help the heart rate.. :(
-
The heart rate going up is actually ok. It's something that is not uncommon when doing a WILD. It's still possible to go through with it.

I guess I just haven't been tired enough to go back to sleep..
I think I'll try setting an alarm for tomorow. But how early should I set it?
Today I woke at 10 o'clock.. Maybe set it for 8?

So anyway.. waking up earlier (at 9 o'clock) didn't work.. I didn't even manage to get to the HI stage..
I soon gave up and tried to sleep some more and woke again at 10. I thought I'd give it a go but didn't think much of it since I wasn't even a bit tired by that time.. Well the HI and HS came..
I have no idea what to do now.. It only seems to happen when my mind is too awake to go back to sleep..
And I still haven't experienced SP duaring it..
I'm getting seriously frustrated..
