I encourage it because I see lots of results, with me included, and it also has helped me become lucid without even doing the WBTB technique. Of course WBTB is not the only technique and everyones different, so there is no one right way. But I do reccomend it especially for people having trouble getting lucid. Its a good jump start.
Yeah and ya know, if you set your alarm to wake you up after 5/6 hours, it really helps set the intention of having a lucid dream. I sometimes have LDs long before the alarm rings..
