      Realizing False Awakenings

I had a false awakening a few days ago, and I had one this morning. Both times I was waking up, writing my previous dream in my dream journal, when I realized I wasn't writing. The conversation in my head sort of went like this:

      "Hey, I'm not really writing."
      "I must be dre-"
      Wake up for real.

I don't know if that counts as lucid, but....how should I deal with these false awakenings? People say you should do a RC after DJing to see if it's a false awakening, but it's always while I'm writing that I start to catch on I'm really not. Should I just start to get in the habit of doing reality checks while I'm DJing along with after? That's something I can do, but any other suggestions?

I recommend adding somewhere in every page of your dream journal "Am I dreaming?", that might work. Or once you start writing it, look away, and then look back and see if it changed.

Bah. My suggestion: RC *before* writing on your journal. Or, should I say, RC everytime you wake up, and you'll prevent most False Awakenings.

And my recommendation would be to calm down when you get lucid. You probably wake up for being excited about having a lucid dream. Instead, relax, focus on your hands/DJ/etc to stabilise the dream, and *then* you may get excited.

      Good luck

That was more or less a lucid dream. I'll give it to you You realised you were dreaming-ish which is good enough. Reality checks help out with FAs so just keep asking yourself if you're dreaming and do the techniques

Good suggestions. I was also wondering about false awakenings. I'm glad I opened this thread. I'll definitely start doing RC's right when I wake up.

Along with writing down your dreams maybe?

Oh yes, I really need to do that. I'm just too lazy, sometimes, but I really need to start writing them down.

If you're lazy, don't worry, I'm lazy too. Just write keywords on a peice of paper or something you can write on. Your mind will either remember when you look at it, or your mind will get a boost and you will remember your dream and everything you wrote untill you eventually get up and do whatever.

As for me, I like to write keywords. Sometimes I get stuck in and write lots of keywords, this is very necessery if needed. I then get up and type my whole dream up on this site in my Dream Journal (which yet has be linked to from my sig). I'm comfortable with that you see, that's why I had success with it.

Good luck with your next dream rememberence efforts, and if you want, use this method.
