Hi lilyan. Welcome To Dream Views! Glad to hear you have decided to learn Lucid Dreaming. And it is a great way to over come nightmares. That's one of my favorite things about it.

I suggest you read through the tutorials. And if you have any questions let us know, we'll help as much as we can.

      Hey Lily!

Yah, as Caradon said, it's good that you decided to learn about Lucid Dreaming, as it helps get rid of nightmares and generally have fun. And, you have the book? That's a nice way to learn, some members on here just use the forum (like me, heh) but books are an awesome way to go too, specially in Lucid Dreaming.

Also, I have some tips for you if you're not already following them. Keep a Dream Journal, as they are best. Learn about these here - Click

That's a thread sticky in the Dream Journal forum itself so at the top you can just click Dream Journal after you've finished reading the thread. Next, we have Reality Checks. Do you do Reality Checks during your life at all? As in, when you turn your computer on, do you do a Reality Check? When you go to the toilet, do you do a Reality Check? When you think about turning the light on, do you do a Reality Check? That's the kind of thing a Reality Check is, if you want to follow some of the examples I put down for you, feel free to go and do so.

And now, Dream Signs. Have you ever noticed how your dreams have similar things in them? Like me for example, I mostly always tend to dream that I'm in my old school, this is odd, I know, but still, it happens. I also dream about members on this forum at. You may have something repetitive like this in your dreams, not all the time, but most of the time. If you want to align that to Reality Check, you can. If it's something you do or see or hear in real life, then practice doing Reality Checks after doing/seeing/hearing them. You can find more information about them here - Click

That was found in the tutorials section which is here - Click

Last of all, lucid foods and drinks, certain foods and drinks have good stuff in them to make you dream longer the following night or perhaps have a Lucid Dream. My favourite and top recommendation is Chocolate, and Milk, as they are what I enjoy most out of the list.

Hope I've given you a good start. Welcome to the community of the site, hope you have an awesome time here.

      thanks for the intro, jdeadevil.

i started a dream journal last night. i'll keep it right beside my bed. and i'll start doing those reality checks. in my dreams i am often in the woods and in a cabin or factory and there are people there who aren't in my life anymoreand often a fat southern guy who i don't know (but i live in the south so i see that often enough).

i'll check out the food list next. i heard there are bananas .

i have a really basic question. a light switch works for reality checks because it is technical so in the dream it wouldn't work? and for example you would say 'am i awake or asleep?' and then flip the switch.

is there anything else you can use?

Well light switches actually work Ok a lot of times for me. So I wouldn't rely on that one. My two favorite reality checks are to first pinch my nose and see if I can breath through it. So far it has worked every time for me, though sometimes I don't want to believe it. If I'm still not convinced I will push my finger into the palm of my hand as hard as I can until it goes through.

So far that combination has worked great for me.

      thanks, carradon.

i've never been able to go LD, unfortunately. but i have had a couple of instances where i have some opportunities. like my friend said something he normally woudn't of and i thought that it was a realy strange thing to say. and in another dream t of my friends were wearing watches and i looked at the faces in my dream and they didn't exactly add up. but i think my brain is compensating in those moments almost, as in making a reason for it not to add up and in another dream i just can't get lucid enough to break the pattern.

Yeah, I know what your saying. It's easy to rationalize odd Things happening in dreams. The strangest things can make perfect sense sometimes.

Just keep working at it. Sooner or later you will be like, wait a second this could be a dream!

Then you will either get Lucid, or say na couldn't be. Hopefully you will remember to do a reality check at that point. But sometimes you can figure it out without needing one.
