Curiosity kills the cat..

A brief introduction: My name is Josh, I'm 15 years old and I'm desperate to have a lucid dream!

The strange thing is that I wouldn't normally be interested in this type of thing. I mean, not to offend anybody but when I'm told about dream interpretation, dream catchers and the like I don't tend to believe in it at all: In fact I strongly disagree. So when I stumble across an article on Wikihow about Lucidity I don't think much of it. However, after reading it through quite carefully, curiosity did indeed kill the cat and I thought it was definitely worth checking up upon. I mean, what sane person would turn down the offer to (in a sense) control reality?!

Well I done my homework on the subject and for about 4 weeks or so I've been fascinated with the concept and I do believe it's possible. Not just because it's scientifically proven, but because of the sheer bulk of people who dedicate themselves to the idea and join in communities such as yours. Hopefully, with your advise and suggestions I'll be lucid dreaming like a pro for the rest of my life; I'm so glad I found out about this now rather than 30-40 years in the future! So much time to explore and have fun!

I see, it's awesome that you're desperate, desperation is a good key to Lucidity, and it means you will do anything to have them. Do not worry about not believing in all the advanced stuff, some people don't, it's natural. If you keep to it, you will definitely be a pro in forty years in the future. Heck, you'll be a pro in no time!

Just to ask, is there anything you don't seem to understand? Would you like me to give you some basic information? If so, read on. A very basic abbreviation you must know is DILD, DILD stands for Dream Induced Lucid Dream. Have you ever had a dream but somehow you knew it was a dream? Well, if it was random, then it was a DILD. To have these more often, I shall give you some advice on how to have them.

First off, you will need to keep a Dream Journal. If you already do so, this is fine, keep doing so. What a Dream Journal basically is, is a normal regular Journal but for your dreams, colour and other pretty stuff is very recommended. If you need some inspiration, click the link to it in my signature.

Secondly, we come to Reality Checking, have you ever done anything in your dream and thought "This can't be right" and then checked to see if it was real? Well, that's a Reality Check, I'll give you link to more detail on this at the bottom of my post.

Food and drink can help you at night to become lucid or make dreams more vivid. I recommend Chocolate and Milk, as they're my favourite in taste. :D

Jdeadevil: Thanks for the kind welcome! I've read about some of the various methods on Lucid dreaming before such as the WBTB method, the WILD method and the DILD method. I've tried all three maybe about 5 or 6 times but with not much luck. I wouldn't mind knowing what are the most popular methods or which have the highest chance of working. Basically just anything I can do which increases the likelihood of a lucid dream, I'm up for it. :D

I recommend DILD, easiest to do. :)

I would highly recommend WBTB, not exactly a technique in itself, but it has great results, especially when combined with MILD.

A note, you might know this, but rarely can a person WILD at the beginning of the night. You must wake up after 5-6 hours to try this, or have a nap.

True, that is the easiest method. I'm new as well, but DILD is all I've attempted as well as some awareness techniques such as counting, saying I will have a lucid dream, and thinking about what I want to dream about. Otherwise, I have woken up a few times, and try to attempt WILD, but I don't think I'm ready for it yet. So I'll stick with reality checks, and techniques for DILDs until I can get an effective method for DILDs.
