Help........ im scared of this

i have been fairly aware in my dreams all my life and have experienced lucid dreaming almost regularly
however in the last couple years ive been suffering most nights from sleep paralysis and false awakenings usually all interlinked

what happens usually i think i have woken, i am in my room but sometimes there are other people there, and strange things happen, therefore i realise that i am dreaming and not actually awake then the sleep paralysis happens and this lasts a few seconds to what sometimes feels like maybe 20-30 mins
im extremely afraid and panicked by this and it is beginning to take a toll on my sleep quality,,,

can anyone help me stop this or even to stop panicking
this is the first time ive researched this topic

What exactly are you afraid for? Even if you're having a False Awakening, it's your dream, and you're in control! Just jump out of your window and do something fun, like flying! After you did an RC of course :p

yeah im afraid cos im not realising quickly enough that its only a dream... because its so real..... and the people are scaring me cos i cant see them properly and they are weird.... then i wanna wake up and it takes all my energy and sometimes i panic cos i just cant wake even though i wanna..... if i have a dream that is a bit wacky like in a strange location or something i know im dreaming and im so calm,,,, but when its in my room i just think ive gotton up outta bed then i get a fright,,,

Well, the fear is a natural part of sleep paralysis, but when you are in SP, you are supposedly only a step away from a LD. I've only been in SP once, so you should look in the tutorials section for more info.

Get yourself interested in WILD. (See tutorials Section)

This way you will crave the chance to enter sleep paralysis.

yeah im having a look through the pages now

you know this is something thats been happening so long but this particular dream only used to happen every couple weeks, and im pretty intimidated by it now that its almost every single night,,, is there a reason for it,,, i really dont like it and sometimes can be upset for hours

i will have a look through here because there is obviously some attraction and maybe i can turn this round to a good thing ?????

does anyone think its coincidental my mother has the same problem or anyone think dreaming can be genetic maybe i should post another forum about this,, but seemingly its been happening her all her life too, and i only found out this when i told her it was bothering me,,, and a lot of our dreams and experiences are scarily alike???

It is very possible that sleeping patterns is genetic, for I'm positive that at least sleep apnea is. Could someone do some research to find out about other forms of sleeping patterns/problems?

If I were you, I would keep researching WILD in relation to Sleep Paralysis. It would be awesome if you could turn this into a positive thing. It seems like you could just be naturally awesome at lucid dreaming.

Sleep paralysis is what first got me into lucid dreaming, also. I now rarely get it unless I am actively trying for it with some sort of meditation. There's nothing to be afraid of with it. I know from experience that you can't really reason away the fear while its happening, but you don't need to worry about any harm coming to you. After its over, try to relax, knowing it was all just in your mind.

The important thing to remember is that when you are hallucinating in sleep paralysis, your mind is generating it all based on your expectations. If you are unprepared and feel afraid, your mind will come up with scarry hallucinations to accompany the fear. If you are prepared, know it is coming, and remain calm, you can get some amazing and beautiful hallucinations. It is similar to dreaming, that way. If you get the idea the dream may turn into a nightmare, it will. If you are expecting a beautiful and spiritual dream, you will get one.

I think that if you try to view this as a positive thing, and induce SP on purpose, you will be able to have some really cool experiences.

If you just want out of the paralysis, try to relax and focus on wiggling your big toe. For most people, this will wake them up quickly.

If you want to ride it out to a dream, try visualizing a dream scene while you are paralyzed. Remember, if you are hallucinating, you are already dreaming. Just dreaming you are in bed. Come up with a visualization that engages multiple senses, so you can change the 'scene' of your dream. Especially try to engage an imaginary sense of touch and movement. You can imagine standing on the opposite side of the room feeling the texture of the wall. You can imagine floating off the bed to reach up and touch the ceiling. You can imagine walking down a set of stairs, or walking through your garden. Try to feel texture, and a natural sense of movement. Your visualization will take over, and you will find yourself in a lucid dream.

Hello everyone, im very new to this site and also just descovered about lucid dreaming. I would just like to ask, are there any risk of practicing lucid dreaming? (example: Sleeping disorder)

Look up hypnopompic and hypnagogic , it sounds like that is what you are having. I am not sure if they are actually lucid dreams. I never get scared in my lucid dreams as I am fully aware that I am dreaming.

I am a natural lucid dreamer. I have had lucid dreams occuring naturally since I was a teenager. I didnt know thats what they were. Prior to today I thought everyone's dreams were like that. Therefore I dont think there is any danger in practicing it but I would like to hear what the experts say.
