Excuse my girlfriend, she's not very awake right now. She can explain what she's talking about if you have questions, but that will have to wait a few hours until after she actually sleeps.
If you become lucid before the bad stuff happens, then chances are bad things won't happen. If you know ou are dreaming, then you know you are perfectly safe, because nothing can hurt you!
If you become lucid while the bad stuff happens, don't run. Instead, talk to the person with the gun, or play soccer with the bears that were chasing you. When you are lucid, you have the power to turn these situations around. But don't run. Confronting the problem is most always the best option. Facing your shadow is empowering, and ceases the fear.
If you don't know what I mean by 'lucid,' you can read the Dreamviews homepage, or ask your boyfriend.
Good luck, and welcome to Dreamviews!
I used to have nightmares fairly often when I was younger; But then one time when it was happening I was just like
"I'm dreaming, nothing can hurt me"
Ever since then I have never had a nightmare, one time I had a dream about falling into a neverending pit but I just thought "dreaming" and just fell it was really fun.
Try using the reality check methods so you might have a better chance of noticing when you're dreaming... remember NOTHING can hurt you in a dream.
(I once had a dream about a friend that backstabbed me and ended up kicking the radiator next to my bed REALLY hard (everyone in the house heard it, and the noise echoed along the pipes) but that was my fault not my dreams fault)
Easy my friend, when you see something in a nightmare go stark crazy with rage and kill em all. Works for me.
That works too, If you just remember that you're asleep then you realise nothing in your dream can hurt you, because of that realisation you should be fine.
Try repeating to yourself in your head as you fall asleep a couple of times something along the lines of;
"I am in my bed"
Might help your dream-mind remember you're asleep.
