Is this the right steps towards lucid dreaming
Hi
A little long with a little background information so please bear with me.
I dont keep a dream journal but I having looked at a few sites recently regards Lucid dreaming and have attempted to improve my dream recollection by spending a few moments upon waking reflecting upon. Please note that I dont use any meditative techniques to fall asleep with.
I have always considered myself to have good dream recollection (possibly due to the fact I am a restless sleeper and often wake during the night) and naturally without effort often realise that I "am" dreaming without being lucid enough to control the dream.
Last night however I was in a particulary vivid dream where at one point I was lying in bed staring at the ceiling - this was in bright sunshine but it was dark in my room obviously at the time
There appeared on the ceiling a swirling (like a whirlpool) of letters that suddenly sucked me in.
This is when I believe I went on the first steps to being lucid in a dream. I was aware that I was asleep. I had the feeling that I was falling without moving. There was no scene to the dream, but merely darkness with a slight hint of static. There was also a low droning in the background that I identifed as the first few bars of a song (like a keyboard note being played too long). I identifed the music as the start of OK Computer (By Radiohead) but I couldnt summon the rest of the song to play. I tried to summon someone I used to know from school (I think at random but possibly not so) but I couldnt make them appear. What I did do was put my hands to my face and check my eyes for REM. Now I dont know if I did this in a sleepwalking state (I dont sleepwalk as far as I know) but I had the definite feeling of fingers on my eyes and the feeling at the same time fo my eyes moving underneath my fingers. This felt like normal tactile contact
I had no concept of time at this pount and I awoke to a bright room. I checked my phone clock and it said 11.30 - which was a concern because my alarm was set to 9.30. I changed the time back to what it should be for my alarm (9.30).
At this point I had obviously slipped back into a normal dream but again it was vivid. I turned over (in my dream) then had a pause when I realised I was still sleeping. I woke up - the transition from dreaming to awake was so fast I wasnt aware of it and I had to make a conciouss effort to check my phone for the time. It was 8.15.
I have had vivd dreams before (usually nightmares) where I am half awake but still dreaming but never quite one like this before.
Any ideas or does it sound like a dream about having a lucid dream (since I have been thinking about it)
