Hi, New Member, and a few questions

I find the topic fascinating, so Im trying to teach myself lucid dreaming. Last night, I tried meditating in bed, focusing on my breathing. Strange colors like green and blue swirled around, and then I felt like I was pulled off my bed. I started having muscle spasms in my eyelids, and my eyes were darting back and forth. I opened my eyes, walked around, and i was awake (in real life), and went back to sleep, when it kinda happened again. And then i stopped trying, and fell asleep normally. What was happening?

Hi Alski, welcome :) Sounds to me that you were experiencing some hypnagogic imagery, and managed to get into sleep paralysis and feel some of the muscle twitching associate with it ;) These are completely normal, read http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=65425 and http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=65007 :D

They are creepy feeling. Does this happen every night, but I just dont notice it? And also, is there anything bad about this? The word paralysis is a creepy one. Do I just let it happen, and just keep focusing on my breathing?

Yup, this happens every single time that you fall asleep, the only difference is that by then your mind is usually out of it so you don't notice :tongue: It can sound scary, but just realize that it does happen about 8+ times every single night of your life. Paralysis can be a creepy word, but basically what it is, is your body making sure that you don't hurt yourself by acting out your dreams. So it's actually a very helpful and positive thing, and the way most people get into lucid dreams!
You should just let it happen, as it's going to happen no matter what in order for you to fall asleep. If you want to try to WILD and stay conscious, yea you can focus on your breathing, on visualization, try a few other techniques that are floating around dreamviews ;) Just remember, if you are ever in SP is it PERFECTLY safe and normal, and if you are scared just don't worry, stay calm, and try to wiggle your extremities like toes and fingers and open your eyes, that should end it pretty fast :) Pretty much everyone on this forum would love to be in that situation though, since if you just relax and keep your mind awake you'll find yourself in a lucid dream ;)

So, (I have never tried to get a lucid dream before) if I keep going with it, I will pop into a dream, but I will know Im asleep?

Thats the basic idea for a WILD, yes. The HI is the creating of a dream, and once its vivid enough, you enter it lucid!!! You CANNOT move when you want to WILD or sleep paralysis wears off. I would suggest the tutorial section for further reading on how to WILD. You seem like an excellent candidate for it. :]

Heh, ok. Im VERY new to this. (Which is why I was surprised I felt a noticable difference in my sleeping over one night) Is it still a WILD if this happens to me while going to sleep the first time? Or just when I wake up during an REM cycle?

Well, a WILD is officialy a WILD when you enter a dream lucidly. It is possible to WILD right when going to slepp, but its much harder. Often times, people will get all the way past SP when going to sleep for the first time, and never enter an LD, as their mind is still too awake, which is why its best to wake upi during a REM period (the period when dreams occur called Rapid Eye Movement. It is called this because eyes move with dreams, and this is why you felt your eyes moving) and then attempt to WILD, as your much more tired, which means you get to sleep easier and faster, though its harder to keep the mind awake, and keep it from falling asleep regularly.

Right, what Rai said. WILD stands for Wake Induced (or Initiated) Lucid Dream, which means that you went, however you did it, from being awake to going straight into a lucid dream by waiting for your body to fall asleep. This is in contrast to a Dream Induced Lucid Dream, where you are in a dream and realize something is strange and become lucid. So really for any technique to be a WILD or a DILD, you have to actually become lucid ;) But you are going about trying for a WILD correctly ;)

Sounds like maybe you have a natural aptitude for it, then. It took me 5 months to reach that point :shock:

Congrats on the natural WILDness!!! I have yet to have a lucid dream.... I'm beginning to think its not possible for me.
