Lucidity question...

Last night I started my dream journal. I wrote down 5 dreams throughout the night, 3 of which were lengthy and detailed. I was talking to a friend who said he used to be able to control his dreams when he was a kid, and he said that it was just like real life. He said he could feel the cool breeze and other sensations. After writing down my dreams last night I remembered them very well, but it seemed that I was just a spectator in a blurry kind of world if you know what I mean. It was more like watching a movie than feeling like I was there. Does this change once you can realize your dreaming? Does it change from seeming like watching a movie to actually throwing you into the movie? Any help would be appreciated =)

What are your dreams like in general, and how good is your recall? How did the ones early in the night compare to those you had later? I have always been fascinated with my dreams, and I always spoke about them even though I didn't keep a DJ so my recall has always been great and my dreams have always been vivid. If you are only just starting out with recalling dreams, that may be the problem. Or, maybe you're just having a vivid-dream dryspell, and it's also possible that your dreams will get more vivid just because you think about them being more vivid and get into the habit of recording them. Keep up with the journal, and you may notice over time that they are getting better.

If not, and your dreams have always been this way, I'd suggest spending some time just sitting around and examining the world around you. Notice the way that your environment and the objects in it smell, taste, feel, look, and sound. Feel textures, listen for ambient noises, notice that the leaves crackle when you walk one them, etc etc etc. You could also try some of the things that people have listed on the forums to help dream vividness. My lucid dreams vary in vividness depending on a few factors. The first is how lucid I am- If I suddenly become lucid, the dream might still be a bit hazy. If I stop and pause and make sure that I am as awake and conscious and lucid as possible, the dream can get ridiculously clear and mimic RL. Lots of people will talk about lucid dreams being a sort of hyper-sensory experience, even more realistic and clear than real life. To a certain degree it also depends on how much you focus on things in a lucid dream- the more you look at something in detail, the more detailed it is likely to become. I wouldn't say that it is like going from watching a movie to being in a movie. It's more like when you stop reading the screen right now, look at the area around you, and really notice the colors, the breeze, the direction of light and the movement of the air and shadows and reflections and textures and transparencies, the sounds... can you hear yourself breathing? Can you hear yourself swallow? It's like becoming conscious of your own breathing or blinking, except that it's becoming aware of your own existence and consciousness when it wasn't there a few moments prior.

Yeah I just started with my DJ last night, and like I said I usually dont remember my dreams that well because I have never really cared to before. Maybe now with the desire to recall my dreams it will help them become clearer and clearer.

I have started to do reality checks throughout the day to make it a habit that will hopefully follow into my dreams.
