first lucid dream!
Hello,
Sorry, this may have already been covered a 1000 times but I do not have time to read all previous posts. Last night I had my first lucid dream and I am so excited I cannot stop thinking about it.
I became lucid because I saw my reflection in a mirror in my dream, and I did not recognize myself (I looked like a man with dark hair, the opposite of what I am) ! Immediately I realized (after I have been on this site for about one month, and have been reading about mirrors in dreams) that I was dreaming.
I performed a reality check, (tried to stick my finger through my hand, and it worked) so I knew I was dreaming. The excitement took over and to try to stop myself from waking up I spun around myself 3 times, after which I immediately woke up.
What else can a beginner do, once they realize they are lucid, to stop themselves from waking up?
Thanks!

First congratulations to your first dream.
Waking up during you first ld is normal, the excitement can easily rip you out of you dream. spinnin 'round is not what I expect to be the best way, as it may change your dreamscape also and you may loose lucidity or even wake up. Instead, try to focus on something to to, like a task or anything you maybe planned before, and try to calm an controll your excitement.
hopefully more will follow and good luck next time

Congrats! It is normal to wake up durring your first LD, I still do it now and then. Once you get over the first one, the next ones are alot easier to maintain. As for staying lucid in the dream, and not waking up, I suggest rubbing your hands together. It is alot less risky than spinning. Gool luck with your next LDs!
