Is there a way to stop dreaming?

Hi all, just found this great site. It's good to know that other people are able to control their dreams because everyone I spoke to about it seemed to never even consider the concept, let alone be able to do it.

I remember having lucid dreams from when I was 14 or 15 and then I started indulging in cannabis. I stopped smoking after 16 years and have started remembering and controlling some of my dreams again, and I'm finding it rather annoying.

I'm just so used to closing my eyes when I go to bed and not being conscious again until I wake up and I don't want to have these bouts of conciseness while I'm asleep.

So is there any natural way of stopping, or at least stopping to remember, my (both lucid and not lucid)dreams?

Well im not sure why you would want to stop. You rest all the same as normall but you can go any where or do anything!

But if i was in your position when i became lucid i would simply focus on the dream fading and losing conciousness perhaps? Or try shouting 'GO AWAY DREAM' while lucid. Shouting things seems to make them happen.

Forgetting dreams, i dont know, maybe do the opposite to how i remember them? When i wake up i dont really move for a bit and i focus on any dreams i've had. Try thinking about the day ahead and getting up and doign something as soon as you wake?

Hope some of this might help.

You'll learn eventually. The problem is not the dreams, since a lucid dream is no less healthy than a normal dream. It's a problem with your attitude.

How to forget dreams? Easy. Don't focus on them. When you wake up, go watch the news or the weather. Fix yourself some coffee or cereal. Go to bed whenever you damn feel like, and wake up whenever you need to.

Simply, live your life as mainstream American as possible. Stress more, sleep less. Have "fun."

How could you want to stop? You're like these people who don't know what it is and don't want to know except you know what it is.

Like other people said, I think you should just ignore them.

Smoking cannabis or weed could be another way... (I really don't suggeest you this one)

What about auto-suggestion... Before going to bed, keep repeating "I won't remember my dreams"

When you are in a lucid dream, close your eyes or change the whole world around you into a black void and just fall asleep in your dream... Tell yourself you're not dreaming and lose lucidity.

When you wake up, don't think about it and think about RL (real life)

If you keep worrying about it, that means you keep thinking about it/ That means it will continue

You want to stop remembering your dreams? Or do you just want to stop waking up briefly in the middle of the night? The dreams are easy to forget. Just let them slip away when you wake up in the morning.

If you are waking up frequently throughout the night, that is another problem. They say we wake up more often the older we get. You could try some general sleep hygiene stuff and see if it helps you sleep deeper.

Could you please explaine why you find it annoying because I can't make sense of why it would bother you to be able to controll your dreams and do whatever you want to do ?

Both. Sometimes it wakes me, other times I sleep through, either way it's an annoyance.

It's annoying because I don't want to do anything other than sleep. That's probably hard to understand, but that's where I'm at right now. Maybe I'll change my mind at some point.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions people. I like the one that says I just shouldn't think about it, that makes a lot of sense to me. Just like anything, the more you worry about something, the more it plays on your mind.

      I'm happy that you're happy

Ain't it weird how we helped someone do the oposite of what we are trying to achieve? Anyways, it's not like we were helping him do bad or anything...

I wish you long, sleepy, relaxing and empty nights

Haha, I started smoking cannabis heavily for the last while again which is why I stopped posting a bit after I had signed up. It seems to really mess up your dream recall or something since I noticed I basically NEVER have dreams following an even dece session. Although I'm not against it and am a periodic user, that was actually one thing I hated about it that most people don't even consider (plus the demotivational thing) which is why I stopped again. Once you start to have good control over your dreams you'll realize it's a downside since you can experience all the possibilities of the universe in LDs.
