if it feels all tingly on your body below ur neck, then ur doing it right. it's a lot of patience and u might not even be successful, but don't give up- there's always tomorrow night
Resist the urge to scratch an itch, or change sleeping positions. These are the body's signals to test if the brain is awake or asleep. If you lay completely still, like Chaos says, your body will assume your mind has fallen asleep, and will soon follow. I've also heard the urge to swallow hinders a successful WILD.
You're going to need lots of patience and resist the urge to give up (this is where I falter :P).
The main key is to RELAX. If you need to move to scratch your nose or something, its OK. Just make sure you relax after and just try to go to sleep, but stay aware.
Don't focus on 'sleep paralysis'... :roll: just get comfortable, possibly use an anchor, and good luck. Personally, I find the easiest WILD to be a DEILD- try that if you can.

I heard that WILD is a lot harder than MILD. Is this true? Well, if you set your mind to anything you can do it.
MILD: re-imagining a past dream, telling yourself you will remember to RC, and going to sleep. If you really put effort into it, you will exercise your memory first.
WILD: Laying in bed and keeping your mind awake while your body falls asleep.
I dunno, you decide. Some people are ace at WILDing right away, some (like me) suck.
I've heard people say by simply performing a mental task in your head that keeps your mind awake while your body falls asleep. However, the urge for your mind to shut down is supposed to get pretty intense, so good luck. I think this is what I am going to start doing after WBTB instead of MILD. It seems more promising for my personality type.
Basically imagine yourself doing something that would keep you mentally awake while you resist any urge to move your body and allow it to fall asleep. Anyone got any good ideas of what this mental task would be? Counting sheep puts me to sleep.
I think it ought to be mentioned in this thread that it is much, much easier to WILD if you have woken up in the middle of the night and go back to sleep while trying to WILD. The reason for this is that in the beginning of the night, you drop directly into non-REM sleep which isn't very good for dreams. If you wake up towards the early morning, you're in the middle of heavy REM cycles, so you fall into a much more dream-friendly sleep.
So, don't try to WILD first thing at night. Just fall asleep, possibly with an autosuggestion or an alarm clock to wake you up after 5-6 hours sleep. Then try it. It's easier.
As has been mentioned, DEILD is the extreme form of this method, where you're asleep before coming up for rational air ever so briefly and returning to the dream, but this time you're lucid.
Well, this is the second decent-length interruption from sleep in my cycle and I am pretty sure I was awakened from REM, though I do not recall the dream any more. Here I go -- to dream land! :]

Has anyone tried these mental sounds, that's supposed to help you get lucid? If you have, did they work?
HH are terrifying at first, but once you realize they are what they are, and nothing external, you become no more afraid of them than you are of yourself. It seems like every time I attempt WILD I get to the sounds and slight flashes of images then go unconscious. I must prevail!
Why are you afraid of yourself? The only way you can hurt yourself is if you deliberately intended to and that doesn't sound like something you would do, is it?
What worked best for me, was WBTB(wake up, go to the bathroom, or just wake up and try it) so you're tired, and then focus all your intent on relaxing(even if that slightly includes monitoring your breathing). The fact that you are consciously making an effort to relax will keep you from falling asleep long enough to expierence SP and transfer to the Dream World. When the SP falling sensations come, welcome them and allow them to happen, don't fight them, submit(you're a step away from Lucid Dreaming!). If you do this it should only last less then 10 seconds and you will have made the full transfer to Dream Time. Now, plug your nose and try to breath in to further affirm that your are dreaming. You can do it!
First off make sure you are in a relaxing environment, make sure your room is a place you can feel completely comfortable in.
Lay down with as much noise reduction as possible, i.e. music, TV and all that shut off. Relax, flex your body, stretch it and relax your muscles. there are many ways you can lay while having trying to WILD, but it has been found that laying on your back with your arms by your side palm down is the best for most every one.
Now focus on your breathing, or picture something (when I try to visualize something I focus on a simple wooden bowl with calm water in it) Try to keep your thoughts from wondering off. It will be impossible to do this at first, but just keep trying. After awhile you will find it way easier to just focus on your breathing or on a image. In fact you will be so completely free of thoughts you might find it scary.
At this point in time you just wait for SP to come and for your dream to form and you have done it.
Most people who try to do this from when they first go to sleep say its rather hard. Plus you most likely will forget that lucid dream or it will become foggy and hazy. Best way is to sleep for about 6 hours, wake up before your last dream cycle, and attempt a WILD. Not only is it easier, but you will remember it more vividly.
Also last tip, never give up. Just keep trying until you either have a LD or you wake up in the morning. If you give up it will be that much harder next time around.
I've been trying to have a WILD as well, but as soon as the wave starts to go over my body I get this irresistable urge to swallow, and even if I fight it as hard as I can I end up swallowing and the wave goes away. I've tried a couple of times, but it always ends the same way.
I know I have said this a million times but thank you so so so much everyone :D I still have not had a WILD but i'm still trying!
Hey Rachel. I found a free online book on this you may want to read. It's called DO_OBE by Donald Degracia. It's how to astral project, but he makes it very clear WILD and AP are the same thing, so that's what he teaches you how to do. I am about half way through the book right now and it has a lot of very helpful information. So yeah, best of luck.
How does it actually feel when you succes? I'm confused, does a dream create iteself infront of you?
Someone said something about rising, and standing up. This seems freaky, I really don't want to "Begin" the dream in my own bed.
Edit: Is there any way to increase the chances of noticing I'm dreaming even if I fail at wilding?
Perhaps it wouldn't be a good idea, for you then Sopanen. From what I read it is a very intense experience. You lose the sensation of your body and random images appear under your eyelids, sometimes very freaky in nature and you feel you are shoved out of your body into any one of these random images.
