Here I am!!! My name is Kelly and I'm new to the forum! It's time to point and laugh at me. With that out of the way, I would like to say, that is of course you want to hear it, that I'm very pleased to be here. I have enjoyed lucid dreaming before, but it does not come with ease. I'm still working at it! Well that's my intro... take it or leave it!

Yeah, my lucid history is like this... I have realized many times that I have been dreaming while I was dreaming. I have never had a problem with dream recall (lucky me!). My dream sign is usually unusual vividness of small detail. I know it sounds weird... So once I notice I'm dreaming I get way too excited about it!!! I've woken up so many times... but my first real lucid dream was about four days ago. I realized I was dreaming because "my house" did not look like my house. I could feel myself waking up, so I decided to try flying. The sky was dark and I was over a vast ocean. It was like daydreaming but one hundred times better!!! I could feel the clouds, the air, and the sensations all around me. I ordered myself to dive and I did. I shot back up, and decided I was ready to do something else, but after that I went into a regular dream. :D
My mind is so simple!

So do you have any goals yet, to become better at lucid dreaming and stuff?

I'm the same! It's far too easy to get distracted in dreams. I've only had 1 real LD so far (I had another acknowledgment of lucidity - which lasted about 5 seconds! :) ) and I got easily distracted after about 1 minute!!
What I don't get is - if it's as real as real life why aren't we more interested in this part instantly. I mean, if we went into a computer world that was as real as this one (like in The Thirteenth Floor (film) ) we'd immediately be amazed by how realistic the sand felt, or how the food smelt, etc. But in our dreams we go - ooh, this is sooo realistic! It's like the real world, but I'm dreaming! ...Look a flying rabbit! ...Oooh! .... ...zzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
...oh and Xisdence ... what do you mean by goals? You have any?

I think it's because we're using different parts of the brain when we're asleep, as opposed to when we're awake. We have to relearn how to maintain control over the situation during sleep. It sounds easy to be able to maintain lucidity, thinking about it while awake, but when you're asleep, it's a whole other world. It feels different too. I don't know about anyone else but in a dream it feels much different than when I'm awake. We rely on things being so concrete during our waking state, but imagine if we were supposed to concentrate on what's happening around us during our waking state, and then started seeing purple bunnies flying around :) We'd get pretty distracted pretty fast!Quote:

What i mean by having a goal, is what do you want to achieve through lucid dreaming, or do you simply want to get really good at it ect ect ??

I mean, what kind of goals are there? I know about AP and all that bollox (I reckon this is a childish fantasy that is constructed by the mind to convince itself of its existence), but what about obtaining lost memories, or finding answers to things? Has anyone actually had experience of these things and had it PROVED correct? Is there anything that is actually USEFULL that we can get from our dreams? ... well, usefull in our waking lives?
...err, maybe this a bit too deep for a wednesday morning (Still morning .. just .. here in sunny, warm England!)??? :|
(Didn't even have a dream last night - went to bed too late ('bout 3.30am!!), watched Butterfly Effect at midnight (DVD) then Nip Tuck ...
Just thought I'd add that bit of useless trivia! ...still fucking tired! :zzz: )
Uses for LDing - off the top of my head :
1 ) Its damn fun, and brings enjoyment :D... hell if you dont think dream sex is good, something is wrong !
2 ) You can overcome your fears - which falls through to waking life
3 ) You can learn a lot about how your mind works, your subconscious, and a bit about 'awareness'
4 ) You can investigate stuff like OOBE and AP for yourself, if you try hard enough
5 ) You can investigate stuff like 'unlocking memories'... although this can be dangerous too
6 ) You are more likely to experience anomalies like shared dreaming. In fact, my wife managed to cause one...
7 ) You end up with interesting hobbies to impress others with :P
8 ) You can learn about yourself and your reaction to situations that would never occur in real life. Eg - become a woman, be president or welcome aliens...

10 ) You can overcome nightmares and frightening dreams.
11 ) You can experience things that you otherwise would not be able to in waking life. Travel to the distant reaches of the galaxy, go on that dream vacation you've always wanted, or swim deep under the ocean.
12 ) Waking up from a successful lucid dream can change your entire day. It can put you in a fantastic mood.
13 ) You can live out your greatest fantasies and desires.
14 ) You become more 'sensory aware'. Your whole life, including lucid dreaming, can become an intense experience.
15 ) It can inspire creativity. I get many ideas for drawings from dreams.
16 ) You can use it to get a different perspective on a challenge or obstacle in your life. You can converse with yourself in a very real environment.
17 ) Like Placebo said, "its damn fun".
I'll add to what I said, in more detail:
Dreaming is the foundation of everything that exists which is human-created. To be without dreams is to be without progress.
I would have to say I'm interested in lucid dreaming because I think it's a fun challenge. Not only is experiencing the lucid dream fun, but struggling over your own mind is fun as well. It sounds impossible to tame your dreaming mind... but it is your own mind, you should be able to control it!!!
As far as goals... well just becoming proficient is my goal at this moment.
Here's a bit of an interesting side note. I spoke to my mother about what lucid dreams were and how awesome they are, and my mom was very surprised with me. She asked, "Some people can't control their dreams?" At this point my jaw kind of dropped. I asked her if she was able to recognize she was dreaming and take control of them. She told me she had always been able to do it, and didn't realize some people had to work to achieve it.
So I guess I have another goal... to become better at it then mommy!!!

Haha.. thats great. My wife had a similar reaction to it - she feels its not that 'cool' at all, because she's been having lucid movie dreams for years. She simply never considered taking it further.Quote:
