First Lucid Dream!!!
Short, but still lucid. I tried a FILD after waking up from one of my dreams in the middle of the night. I remember sort of transitioning into a dream state, but I wasn't fully conscious and didn't see many of the pictures and colors others talk about.
I did, however, do a reality check in that dream and realized I was dreaming! The problem was that I woke way too quickly and screwed it up. I was lucid for about 10 seconds.
I tried turning dark into daytime, but felt myself slipping away. It sucked, but it was still a start.
Any tips on how to keep lucidity?

Firstly, congrats
Your lucidity will get longer with more practice. A few tips on how to prolong lucid: Look/Feel something in the dream, Rub your hands or Spin on the spot.
Check out some of the tutorials about prolonging dreams.

Can it be called being lucid if you go... I think im dreaming and then in the instant where you try to perform a reality check you realised you had just woken up? Like i was just about to do it so i was sitting in my bed with my hand on my nose when i awoke :)

I would think so. I wonder why you wake up after doing a RC. Maybe it's the brain's way of saying you're not supposed to do this.
Well screw the brain, I'm going to keep practicing.

I lawl'd.
Anyway, search up some of the stabilization tutorials, and I am suggesting those by BillyBob. The man has a gift, and he's written some invaluable information on how to keep a lucid going in his tutorials.

Too bad I didn't plan that or it would have made me feel like I accomplished something...
Thanks for the info!

How did you get fild to work I've been trying that for about a month now with no success.

Come to think about it I don't really think it was a FILD. I wake up at night after every dream. I was attempting to do a FILD, however I never saw any of the flashing colors or dream pictures that everyone says you're supposed to.
I think perhaps I might have woken up in a dream at a later time, because I don't really think it was a transition.
What made me think it was, was because I was lucid and I don't remember anything before the FILD. However upon closer inspection, since I failed it horribly last night, I realize that it must be something else.
I don't even remember my dream from last night. I have to keep working. I'm going to try drinking some caffeine tonight.

Congrats! I'm happy for you.
