my dream recall is absolutely horrid

Hey all. I've been reading some of these threads where people are talking about how they have bad dream recall because they're "only" remembering 1-2 dreams per night. I started almost a week ago and I've only been able to remember ONE dream. I'm really not sure why this is, but after reading some threads I'm starting to think it's because I smoke so much weed. I smoke multiple times a day and I almost always go to bed high and I'm beginning to suspect this is hurting my dream recall ability. Either that or I just suck at dream recall. I don't think I should be having this much trouble with dream recall since I clearly remember periods in my life where I'd dream multiple times a day. Either way, I'm going to continue practicing all this stuff and reading about it every night and I'll give it every night for a couple of months. Out of curiosity though, has anyone else with recall this bad (one out of six days) actually managed to get to the stage where they can LD/have good recall? Seems like everyone starts off and immediately has multiple dream recalls per night. Any other tips would be appreciated as well.

I think it´s definitely the cannabis that causes it. As I understand it, you dream less from smoking weed. I don´t know if the THC suppresses your REM-sleep or if it just makes the dream recall very hard. Take a break from the weed for a month and see if it gets better, then you´ll know if it´s the weeds fault. I would choose lucid dreaming over cannabis any time.

Yeah you're right, it must be the weed because in the past I used to dream more than now... I've been smoking weed all year and I haven't been dreaming for sh1t! Luckily I'll be on summer break back home soon and I won't be here in Austin for a couple months so it'll be easier to quit. And from the sounds of it, i'd take lucid dreaming over weed too .

I have to agree with lucidblogger. Also, I had pretty bad recall myself. I could only remember one dream every month or so in some cases. Since I started writing in my DJ(not everyday though), I think my recall has improved. I have ~23 dreams or so over a period of 2 month or so, so, I've improved, but, it's sometimes a dream every other night

I smoke multiple times a day, every day, and go to bed high almost every night and I have perfectly fine dream recall. All you have to do is set your alarm in 2 hour increments throughout the night and wake up and immediately write down your dreams. If you are sleeping all night and trying to remember all your dreams in the morning, then you might as well forget it. People who can do that are rare or practice way too hard. Just set your alarm for 2 hours after you think you will fall asleep, wake up, write down your dream, go back to sleep and repeat. I guarantee 2-5 dreams a night! (Plus, you don't have to cut back on the weed!)

That´s cool, I thought you didn´t dream at all after smoking cannabis. That´s the main reason I don´t smoke. Maybe I have to rethink my choice.

i smoke a lot and also have terrible dream recall but i find that i can remember at least the feeling of my dreams or some symbols or important parts if i think about them really hard. also, if i wake up after every dream (happens naturally for me) and just think about what happened, i can normally go back to sleep, continue the dream, and then wake up remembering it.

the biggest part (for me) is to actually remember to think that "YES! i want to dream and remember it!"

Pot No Help; Maybe This Will...

Hello I would confirm that smoking weed will do that, and may suppress dream recall BIG-time, dependent on various factors, like your personal chemistry and how heavy the use, et. al.

NOTE: A book that I use regularly for my dream-work and is great is by expert Jeremy Taylor, called "Where People Fly and Water Runs Uphill." He says, based on over 20 years experience, that "mind-altering substances, particularly alcohol, marijuana, and various coco derivatives, in even moderate doses... will make it difficult, if not impossible, to remember dreams." So there we have it, and I have found all of his insightful observations to be very true.

However, I would also add that personal factor. You see, I focus intently on the process which helps facilitate dream recall and still sometimes find difficulty, and even my own success in this proves relatively quite limited. But I DO know it is important to not give up hope. On the other hand, compare that with my good friend who is a total pot-head, smokes everyday and regularly recalls extended dreams in spite of this. So there are different factors which you CAN pull to your advantage, but smoking pot, especially going to bed baked, in my studies and experience, will NOT help. Sorry but apparently some of us need to narrow our goal; either pot or dream-work. It's hard to do both.

      Hope this helps!

      Will

It's probably the weed, in a way. It definitely can effect dream recall, but there are definitely ways around it. Although I don't have this "obstacle" myself, I'd say KingYoshi's post sounds reasonable.

Definetly the weed altering your dream recall...that's what i think atleast. I'm just a newbie...lol i could be wrong

sort of off dreaming topic but how does it feel to smoke some weed? just curious... i heard it makes you feel better in pretty much every way. Are you happier? Your food taste better? Clear vision lol? Do you become more social? I heard it's not addictive but it's so good you'll want to be high all the time...

Hey Logan's Girl. Weed has different effects on everybody. I've smoked out so many first timers and seen so many different reactions to it. When I smoke it, if I haven't smoked for a while then I get super messed up and I start ALMOST hallucinating... meaning I won't seen full blown open-eye visuals but when I close my eyes I'll see clear, colorful patters emerging in psychedelic ways. Also everything will look different, my friends and the rest of the world will look kind of cartoony (But not in a hallucinating way, I just interpret their appearance differently) and music will sound incredibly beautiful, surreal, and heavenly. All jokes start sounding really clever and everything starts getting real funny. and yeah you get the munchies, food tastes amazing, you feel super relaxed. if my tolerance is high though, then usually i just get relaxed, and a much milder version of what i just described. it's different for everybody though, but you should definitely try it.

By the way I've been off the green for one day and I just remembered two dreams last night (as opposed to one dream in 10 days when i was smoking)! I'll post about it in a bit...
