This is one of the most common beginner problems. It's good to have a plan. When you realize you're dreaming, don't dwell on it. Interact with your dream... Immediately! Do something... anything! This has become second nature to me now. Try rubbing your hands together. Or immediately run around or focus on a small object. Spinning is actually a very good technique that I wouldn't give up on. Just don't be discouraged from waking up. Be encouraged from getting so close. Just keep doing what you're doing and you'll be there in no time. I'm pretty sure 90% of people experience this when they start and probably still experience it from time to time.
Yeah, spinning is good. So I've heard, anyway. Gameover has good advice. You could also try reality checking some more; I've heard that's supposed to make your dreams more stable. Above all, don't give up. You can only get super excited about becoming lucid so many times; eventually it should wear off.
I had the same problem last night. My first real lucid (yeah!), but it only lasted about 5 seconds. I think it was an actual unintentional WILD, sort of, or at least I became lucid seconds into my first WBTB dream.
Anyway, I didn't real need to do anything to become lucid, I just remember looking at my hands in my bedroom, which is impossible because I'm supposed to be in bed, and then trying to speak. There was this intense feeling like my whole body had gone to sleep/numb, and then I lost lucidity. I feel that if I hadn't pushed it so hard, I wouldn't have lost lucidity.
