Lucid nightmare problem

Hi everybody, I was hoping someone could help me with a problem I have. I have had a few lucid dreams, but they were all nightmares. One night I actually had a good lucid dream, but I turned it into a nightmare by expecting everything. The worst part was that nothing happened except my brother showed me a card, and a face appered on the card momentarily. I said " is that it?", but I expected more so I tried everything to wake up. If you were in that dream I would have been the scary part. I was bashing my head on everything trying to kill myself awake WILLINGLY. Does anyone think they can help?

From my experience, if you want something to happen (whether it's punching through a wall or avoiding a scary situation) the key is to absolutely know that it will work when you try it. You need to remember that you are in control of that universe! You can change the situation, but only if you believe you can. I know sometimes it can be hard to change your mindset into a more confident one in a frightening dream, but try to be upbeat.

I had an experience which sounds a lot like yours, which is here, if you fancy giving it a read :P I was trying crazy shit to wake up as well!

I've had this multiple times before. Aldo this happend before I was "in to dreaming". I did find a fix that worked for me. I went to sleep in the dream. Sometimes I woke up. Some times I'd end up in an other dream. Once I saw myself waking up and walk out of the room. Then it repeaded. Then I woke up.
Just one down side. It's hard to go to sleep when beeing chased :-p
it might be better to get more dream control and face the dream. Tho that is easier sayd then done! :-p

That happend to me a lot of times man.. Ill tell u one thing .. I was haveing a lucid dream and i became scared because i was expecting a scary face or something to attack me quick.. But i remember the night before that i read on this site to littarly bite the bullet and dont flinch.. So i did.. And when i didnt flinch i took control of it and threw him into the sun. Gotta love lucid dreaming bro :D

i have most lucid dreams starting as a nightmare u can learn to change it all... my nightmares are usually indoors so when i realise its a dream..i would think that outside it will be daylight and there's a ferrari or a nice looking girl out there aswell 9times out of 10 it would happen :)

also the way i used to wake up from a nightmare was to just close my eyes in my dream not sure if anyone else does this but its always worked for me and nightmares ..now instead of closing my eyes..

i would think ohh this is bad if this was a dream i would close my eyes and wake up !! then in the same few seconds i will realise its a dream and freestyle

empowering, like a piece of epic music? That uplifting feeling that gives you
goosebumps? I would advise focusing on this just before bed. Waking up
from very powerful good dreams can leave you with this sensation as well, and
will oftentimes leave you with a delusion sense of invincibility. If you can
practice recalling this feeling while awake, you can do it in dreams, whereby
you can reverse any bad scenario.

The other trick I've coined is to just close your eyes, and leave them closed. It
turns out that the nightmare loses it's effect if you block your sensory
perception of the situation. There may be some residual fear, but it will be
nothing like what was, and your ability to wake should no longer be impaired.
