sinking into my bed ..PLEASE HELP ME

Hi, recentley i've found i have been able to do this strange thing before i sleep, I lay face down on my bed and i can indouce this weird kind of spinning in my mind, this spinning gets more and more intense and then i start to feel like im sinking into my bed and i't almost feels like im blacking out... at this stage i also snap myself out of it because i have been too scared to continue. i can pretty much do this when ever i want.

Can someone please tell me if they have experianced anything simlar does this sound like the start of a lucid dream?

It's not harmful in any way, in fact it's actually good to your body, so don't be scared.

I love that feeling. :D I've had it once or twice in my life by pure accident. It's always so freaky, but still so awesome...kinda like being in free fall. ^_^

Yeah, I'd agree that it's probably SP, and nothing to fear. Actually, it may be a good sign that you'd be skilled at the WILD method. :)

cheers for the help guys, it's a really scary feeling.. i'll induce this sinking feeling again tonight and see if I feel ok enough for it to carry on past the blacking out stage. The weird thing is is that i can make this happen when ever i want and im wide awake. when i do this i dont see any pictures its just blackness, at the transation from the rooom spinning voilently to the sinking feeling I fight the sensation and open my eyes as quickly as i can with absulte panic.

all the guides i have read on here it seems that sp happens once you're about to fall asleep, but mine is just simply closing eyes faced down and imagining the room spinning...

I also have very horrific nightmares where i'm dreaming and objects in my room start to shape into odd faces. I dont want to make this WILD gift thing i have to amplify these scary visions.

SP is when you lay still for a a while. Don't move a muscle.

And that's why I'm scared.. I'm not dreaming I am wide awake!

I'm not sure that this is SP. If you are doing it when you are first going to sleep at night, then it's not likely to be an episode of SP. It sounds a lot more like hypnogagic hallucination, IMO. On the other hand, you say it can happen whenever you close your eyes, even wide awake. It's pretty hard to say. In either case, they are not harmful so try not to panic when it happens. Remind yourself that you are in control. Try to consciously slow the spinning or sinking so that the feeling isn't so unpleasant.

Personally I get a sinking feeling as I first fall asleep at night, too. But for me it's very pleasant because it's not very strong.

Now...if this is causing you a lot of distress or messing up your daily life, I think your best option is to see a doctor or psychiatrist. You may have a chemical imbalance or sleep disorder. The spinning may be caused by inner ear problems. Most likely it's nothing physiological, but like I said if it's so bad it's messing up your life, then no harm in getting checked. ;)

thankyou for the infomation, I'll look up this hypnogagic hallucination. It doesnt efect my life, as this violent spinning/sinking feeling is sort of self indouced. It just feels 100% real that i am atucaly in bed in my room with everything spinning violently.

I like this heavy sinking feeling, cause I can visualize sinking into my bed into a fantasy world. Then go into a dream about it.

My experiances feel much more dark and almost supernatural than a nice calm sinking feeling.
I beleive i have hypnogagic hallucination .. im glad that this can be explained scientificly

Try next time you feel it, to imagine a world below your bed and just sink in.

I used to get that falling feeling almost every night when I was younger, right after I went to bed. Funny how all these years later I find myself wishing I could still do that :P

I might try it tonight. All through my past experiencee discourages me not too. ive had these really horrible vivid dreams/hallucinations all through my life the worst of which was when I was about 9 years old... I woke up, sat up in bed and i had a man spinning in a slow circluar clockwise motion on my wall with a terrifying sinister grin. My parents remember me running into their room crying and in shock. I told them it Was yahyahbums(My 4 year old self named this).. my parents were very worrid about me.

I also recently found out from my parents that at the age of 6 onwards used to have a imaginary friend called yahyahbums i'd see in the corner of my room, apprently he'd tell me to do things. such as play with toys and such...very creepy

Ive had many experinces of waking up and not being able to move and seeing dark figures appers from the shadows in the corners of my room although i know im dreaming I can fight to open my eyes and jerk out of the dreams which usualy works works.

I have also had dreams where I would be in bed looking around but un able to move, everything in the room is how it should be even my large white clock and it's time clearly visible, I'd wake up to see the clock had the same time..... I beleive maybe all of these dreams are connecting in some way with my recent ability to make my body spin in all axes and eventualy sink.

I have never spoke to anyone about these dreams before because I thought people would think i was going crazy..

Ok THIS is definitely SP. No doubt about that. It's a textbook example. Waking up not being able to move but still conscious, seeing shadow figures etc. Basically your mind wakes up but your body hasn't woken up yet. You can get out of it easily, you said you already can, but just for further help if you need it some time, you basically move a finger first or a toe, then your hand or something and eventually move your whole body awake.

The other one you mentioned first (the floating/sinking/spinning) is the BEGINNING of sleep paralysis. You can induce this manually by relaxing your body. AFAIK this happens to everyone when they are extremely relaxed. It's just the mind misinterpreting the tactile sensations. It's actually a good way to get in to a dream through WILD, as long as you can keep your mind awake.
If you look at Oneironaught's relaxation technique somewhere on these boards (do a search, I can't remember where it is right now) he explains this in detail.
I've had experience with what you describe to and I think I understand what you mean by sort of self induced. I got it once when I was smoking weed, then it happened when I didn't smoke and I purposely tried to get it stronger by focusing on it.

Now I don't get it anymore, unless I want to. I can't describe how I can get it to not happen though, it's hard to describe brain workings. All I can say is try to induce it purposely through Oneironaught's relaxation technique or relaxation of your own (deep lung breathing etc.) or whatever you choose. After you can 100% induce this feeling on purpose. You should be able to relax without getting this feeling, all you'll get is a heavy feeling because your body is actually sinking in the bed because you're relaxed.
The best I can describe how to relax without getting it is to calm your mind and focus on breathing or the actual real sensation of your body getting heavier, don't even think about the spinning etc. and don't try to exaggerate the heavy body feeling by making yourself feel like your sinking further than you really are.

Trust me you can stop this, it's all in your mind. And I know all these nightmares and SP events etc. when thought about together may lead you to conclude that you're crazy, but you're not. They are all normal occurrences. There's probably even forums for people who get Sleep Paralysis.

SP can also be used to get in to a lucid dream through a WILD, and hence away from the scary situation (which doesn't have to be scary btw, I assume the only reason it was scary is that you didn't know what it was, now that you know you should be able to experience it without worrying).

It can be used to get in to a lucid dream because it's basically the end point of a WILD (body asleep, mind awake). Next time you get it, just close your eyes, imagine some scenery and you will be in the dream in no time.

Use this to WILD! If you can induce this feeling at will, you are already halfway there. You can use this to put yourself into a trance or a lucid dream, and have some amazing experiences.

I should have mentioned too (can't remember if I did) that, as other people have said, this sensation can get you in to a WILD more easily. But it will be scary if you don't know how to control it yet. If you want to try, the easiest way to get out of this state is to just sit up in bed slowly and then stand up. But if you wanna use it for WILD, if you're game, basically you just have to intensify this sensation.
It will become stronger and stronger, you might feel like you are going in all these different directions or simply sinking or floating upwards really fast. One time it happened to me incredibly fast and I suddenly felt like I was free falling. However I screwed it up because I was ready for it and I jumped in my bed lol. It actually felt like my bed had fallen from underneath me (totally different to the mini dreams where you fee like you're falling and jerk awake).
So yeah after you're at the stage where it's almost too much too handle, start imagining a dream scene. All the colours, sounds, forms, smells, tactile sensations like wind or heat etc.
Once you have this in your mind, increase the sensation more.
The spinning or falling etc. will eventually change and you'll feel like you're moving so fast you're not moving at all. If that makes any sense.
Your whole body should be numb. But you still kinda feel like you're moving somehow, even though it doesn't feel like it, and you're obviously not IRL.

Soon afterward you should be in that scene, just keep visualising it and you'll get in. This should be done during a WBTB, just coz it's easier to get in while in the middle of REM period.

Its not a good sign as it sounds like spirit possesion & control which makes the body heavy & person lazy,feeling tired or sleepy all the time,lack of concentration etc(all felt during normal daytime activitys). Dont lie on your face when you sleep & try sleeping on your right side or face the ceiling when you sleep & drink plenty of milk mixed with honey regularly before bedtime,also never wear black clothing at bedtime & try to wear white clothing,if you want to know more,e-mail me & i will be more than happy to help further.

Interesting I have the same thing I think as soon as I heard about dream views I tried to WILD as soon as I went to bed
then I started seeing neon windmills and hearing slimy sounds on my window, then I moved on accident and it stopped. I think it was SP?
I don't know but I only had one LD and that was when I was 7 but ya try to power through it and instead of knowing your past experiences with inducing SP were scary your expecting scary just try to think of a nice mellow valley or bunnies or whatever hope I helped

Beware: if a thread is over a year old, please do not reply to it--just make a new thread next time. Also, hypnogagic hallucinations are not due do demonic spirits or possession. People see and hear hallucinations based on who they are and how they're feeling. For example, after watching a marathon of zombie flicks I might hear zombies groaning as I'm close to falling asleep. This is completely normal.
