Hey guys, brand new to this

Hey everyone, i'm red. I became interested in lucid dreaming a while ago, but ive just been reading about it until now. I decided i want to give it a try.

I know there are tutorials and everything, which i have read, but my main question is: Where do i start?

Should i start by making a dream journal? Thats easy enough. But how long should i keep up my dream journal until i'm ready to try lucid dreaming? Please walk me through this a little bit, and please also remember that i have no idea what i am talking about.

I appriciate all input and help. I would realy appriciate it if an experienced LDer could PM me and act as sort of a mentor for me for a while, and teach me from the beginning.

I hope all of this is fine with the rules. If its not, just tell me. Im not trying to be a jerk or rock the boat, im just new here. If i go out of line please tell me. I will give respect to everyone who shows it to me

Anyway, please answer my questions, and bear in mind that i really have NO idea how to do any of this, or where to even begin.

      Thanks a lot everyone

      -Red

      WELCOME TO DREAMVIEWS RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey man, all your questions are fine. I'll just breeze over them really quickly, and you can just PM me if you need more help.

I would DEFINITELY start with a dream journal. That's where I started, and it improved my dream recall and frequency of lucid dreams immensely.

As far as having a mentor, we have an adoptions program here. You have to be here 2 weeks before you can be adopted. Until then, I would be more than happy to walk you through stuff here.

      PM me anytime, ok?

      Welcome to DV!

Yes, keep a dream journal and review it every couple of days and look for common things that occur often in your dreams. These are your dreamsigns. Whenever you are awake and you run across one of your dreamsigns or something that reminds you of on, ask yourself if you are dreaming and perform a reality check.

      Good luck!

Thank you, i'll start my dream journal right away.

I think i'll try and keep my dream journal and thats all for the 2 weeks, and work solely on my dream recal skills. Then after the 2 weeks i'll look into the adoption program.

One more question, if you dont mind:
About how long do you have to keep a dream journal before you are good enough at remembering them to begin becoming lucid?

      Thanks

That's different for everybody. I kept one for a week before I started having LDs. Then I regularly had 1 or 2 LDs a week. So I'm about average you could say. So try it for at least 2 weeks, then we'll see where you are, k Red?

I on the other hand took about 2 months, so don't feel bad if you don't get anywhere quickly, the reward is sooooooo sweet.

My me if you ever need any advice. And have a good time here.

Thanks you two, i'll start tomorrow. Now this leads me to another question (lol i wonder how long it will go on line this.. bear with me, eventually i'll get a clue )

My next question is: After i keep a dream journal, will i start becoming lucid automatically? What do i have to do to start becoming lucid? If i have to do anything; should i start doing it right away, even though i dont have good dream recall yet?

      Thanks,

      -Red

      Welcome Red! (nice name )

Usually your confidence will do most of the work. Rereading your journal periodically helps too. Also, dream recall should be worked on to a certain degree...I'd say at least 1 dream a night. Generally you should start in whatever manner you like (within workable means), and take it from there. If your the type of person that likes gradually increase in achievement, that's fine too. Just take it at your own pace, and don't get discouraged!

      Good luck!
