Sorry, the question was worded wrong.
Like, I don't see how writing down previous dreams helps you realize you're in a dream(not lucid-like, just seeing your normal dream)
For example: During a non-lucid dream, you can see it, whether from third person or not. Don't you need to see your dreams in them, to remember them?
How can you see your dream while it's happening, before waking up?
Most likely, you WILL forget your dreams throughout the day. Plus, it sometimes helps you remember previous dreams as well. I believe that's how it works.

I'm curious, you really won't 'experience' while it's really happening, you would only remember experiencing it, right? It's the habit that counts.
You may have had a lucid dream the previous night and not remember it. When you get up and try to remember your dreams so you can right them down, the lucid could come to you.
If you never write down your dreams you could be letting alot slip down the drain.
Since I started a dream journal (just over a week now) I have only been able to recall one dream every other day on the average. On the mornings I don't remember anything I lay still and close my eyes and try to recall anything such as a feeling, or images but can't on those certain mornings. At this point I'm not frustrated at all cuz I know eventually I will get to one or two dreams per night if I stay committed and focused. Well I least I'm hoping my recall will improve cuz most people here have accomplished this by staying committed to their DJ's.
Having a dream jounral does not necessarily help you realize that you are in a dream... But it helps you remember your dreams for later. Your subconcious mind starts to understand that you want to remember your dreams and you get better recall with more practice. Better recall is essential to inducing lucid dreams because you start to realize how you dream and what you dream about. Also, you may have a lucid dream... And just not remember it. So recall is very important.
