So new at this its crazy.

hey so. I literally stumbled upon this site with Stumbleupon.com, and found it to be one of the most interesting things i've read in a long time.
I'm going to start a dream journal tonight and begin to do all the things that people have been saying, but I'm just wondering if there are any tips you guys have on starting out? Anything that you've found was helpful?

read the tutorials, and take your time.

Build up your dream recall to at least one dream per night before exerting some serious effort...this takes about a week or two on average. Even fragments count here, too. When you wake up, to recall a dream, hold perfectly still and immediately think back on your dream. Moving causes the dream to slip and fade as your brain puts more thought into moving instead of remembering. Write down your dreams as quickly as possible. Before drifting off to sleep, do an affirmation that you will remember your dreams. "I WILL remember my dreams" or "I remember my dreams" are great ones.

In the mean time, you can start getting into the habit of reality checking. More about RC's can be found in the DILD tutorial. I would prefer if "awareness" was added to the list somewhere, as this is one of the greatest RC's. Simply put, try to remember back five or ten minutes. If you can remember this easily, you probably aren't dreaming. If you're having trouble recalling, though, you're probably dreaming. NEVER glaze over an RC because "you're sure that you are awake." Any and every moment COULD be a dream. Search for things out of the ordinary, look for oddities in setting, character behavior, objects, etc. Pay attention to the way you feel, where you are, what you're doing, etc. It is recommended that you do this about 10 times a day, although if you're willing to have a bit more patience, it isn't quite so crucial. :)

Yeah, I actually can recall my dreams quite frequently, which is why i was initially interested in this. I'm going to do a dream journal for sure, and hopefully I will get to some LD's soon.

I actually asked my dad if he had any experience and he surprised me by saying that not only has he mastered LD's, but also another technique that I haven't seen on this site yet, he said that he could transfer from consciousness directly into LD state without ever having that "sleep" feeling... or losing consciousness... It sounded pretty cool. Do you know what that is called?

That is a WILD, or Wake Initiated Lucid Dream. Basically, it's falling asleep consciously. It uses the Wake Back To Bed method...it doesn't work so well when first going to sleep.

Lucid Dreaming runs in your blood. Cool! :D

haha guess so, i wonder if genetics has anything to do with how we dream...

Man I wish my Dad or other family members/friends were aware and into LDs. Its a bit lonely at first when you experience lucidity and you can't talk about it. I'm just glad there are sites like this :P

Try looking at the palms of ur hands b 4 u fall asleep, keep telling yourself that you are going to look at your hands. You may do this throughout the day as well, it becomes a sort of RC , one day u'll be dreaming and all of a sudden you'll remember to look at your hands and instantly become lucid
