Techniques to a certain point are just about the same. Just when you get so far you might have to change what you train your mind to do.
There's differing opinions on what astral projection/OBE's are. I've had some, and my opinion is that they're very closely related to lucid dreaming, if not the same thing. If you set your mind to it, it's not difficult to learn.
Well there are different opinions about astral projections. I personaly think they are just a special form of lucid dreams, anyway i'm also open to spiritual opinions. If you are interested, I recommend you to check out the Beyond Dreaming Forum, which is for people who believe or are interested in OBE's/ astral projetion etc.
