Spinning out of control problem : (

Hello,

My name is Mike and I have only been learning about LD for almost a week now. I have always had intense dreams, and could recall numerous dreams every morning. But never had I experienced a lucid dream, until Monday night. Its hard to describe the intensity of the whole situation. I was in a dream and then realized something was off, did a RC and immediately my body tingled w/ electricity, and it was 100% like I was THERE (in the middle of the desert btw). This happened 3 other times that same night (more like morning, b/c I woke up after 6 hrs of sleep at 8am, went about my day for 2hrs then returned to bed for another 2 hours. Read it was a great way to induce LD), but I had the same problem happen in all of them. I would start to lift off the ground and start spinning out of control. Soon I would be 300 ft off the ground and would either wake up or slip out of lucidity(? lucidness?). In the 3rd lucid dream, I knew I would soon start lifting up and spin off to the skies, so I had a friend try and tie me down...but that didn't work.
I imagine I am just not stabilizing my dream enough. (Didn't go lucid last night to try again)
Any tips would be much appreciated.

Stabilization, confidence and practice. All those words go hand and hand. I'm not saying you wont be able to do one without the other, what I'm saying is your chances for success go up when you do them.

Also in the third dream where you "knew you would start lifting up and spin to the sky's" is a perfect example of what you should think next time. All you have to do is change that to something more positive that works with the goal you're trying to accomplish. Know that you're going to have full control when you fly. Get rid of any doubt that my cloud your mind, and just do it. Anything you think can happen, will happen.

I understand what you are experiencing. I had a couple of lucids (early on, when I was a beginner) that I spun uncontrollably. As soon as you become lucid it is highly recommended that you perform a few stabilization techniques at the very least (even if the dream seems stable). Then proceed in your dream with confidence. This is YOUR dream and you are going to be able to control your own actions! Don't expect to start spinning, expect to proceed without difficulty. If the problem still arises, you can always find a anti-spin pill within your dream and take it. You could try to find the "dream remote control" and turn spinning to "off" as well. I used to grab a tree (or any other solid object) when I began to spin and it would stop me. Just keep practicing and try to keep your mind off of the spinning. You can do this by engaging in dream activity and the environment around you. This should keep your mind off things. Good luck to you and try not to get frustrated. Once you successfully gain control over the spinning once, you will most likely never have a problem with it again!

I actually totally agree w/ you. It's interesting b/c I re-read what I wrote today and I noticed that I did put "and I KNEW I would start to lift off the ground", and immediately recognized that me "KNOWING" that I would begin to lift off the ground was a huge reason why I did then again start to do that.
I read your comment the night you posted it, and did what you mentioned. I had 5 lucid dreams that night...and NOT in one of them did I begin to spin out of control. One major thing I did differently that night then my 1st night, was really stabilize my dream. I touched things around me (in a hotel room for the first 3) to feel the texture, the temperature etc. I was also very confident that I could control it b/c it was MY dream. The first dream I didn't stabilize, which lead to my dream start to fade and disappear...but I didn't start flying out of control b/c I adopted that confidence that I could control my dream. So the next LD I was in the same hotel room, where I then stabilized properly...then decided that I could walk up walls and on ceilings. Very cool!

I have been able to control the spinning since then...just needed to stabilize better AND really have the confidence that I was in control. I like the "dream controller" idea, let you know if/when I put it to use.
I read your post on "Yoshi's WILD technique"...definitely gonna use it tonight. So far I've been going lucid every second night (although me saying that is just putting limits on myself...I want to go lucid every night), so in a few hours will try your technique. I really like the change position part of it, b/c w/ me I've been trying WILD when I 1st goto bed but it's been unsuccessful b/c soon the urge to move is so intense that I just turn on my side and give up (ALL of my lucid experiences have been either dreaming and do a RC...or when I wake up in the night then I can easily and quickly WILD). I'm sure this technique will definitely work for me...I do almost all the steps already, so this seems like it will be one of the easier ones for myself.
