Hello
Hi, I started researching this a while ago. I'm keeping a dream journal now, and I've had a few lucids. In these dreams though, I had a really hard time controlling what happened. In fact, attempts to change what happens sometimes make things worse :(
Basically, I'm hear because I think this stuff is really cool and I want to get good at it.
And by the way, can anyone recommend a particularly good induction method? The dream signs have helped, but I was hoping there was something I could do while conscious.
So hello, fellow dreamers!

Well welcome to the community :)
To answer your question, yes there is a technique you can do while being conscious. A wake-initiated-lucid dream or WILD is simply consciously entering a lucid dream but it takes practice like all other techniques.
My personal favorate is called a wake-back-to-bed or WBTB which can be applied with almost any technique and has been founded to increase your chances to 60%.

Good luck :)

Welcome, and good luck Lucid Dreaming!
You certainly found the right place.

I'll second the advice for Wake Back To Bed (WBTB). I'm convinced it is the single most important thing you can do to increase your chances of getting a lucid dream.
Other than that, just try to stay aware of yourself and your surroundings while awake. Try to constantly keep dreaming in mind. You could be dreaming, right now! How do you know you're not?
