Eye movement bringing me out of it, before it even starts

I started attempting lucid dreaming after a friend suggested a technique he found fairly successful. He has frequent SP though, something I have never experienced. I tried anyway, and found it worked, kind of - I lie completely still, headphones on and listening to an .mp3 track he gave me, and focus on a mix of breathing/counting.
So far, what happens is I get to a point where I start to feel like I'm falling (he described this to me, so I expected it), and I can feel my eyes flicking/twitching rapidly. My breathing doesn't change but my heart starts to pound. The problem is that as soon as the eye twitching starts, my eyes will gradually open, and trying to keep them shut brings me out of it, and whatever was happening is lost. The heart pounding is pretty distracting too.
Any advice? Should I switch techniques? I'm hesitant to since this happened the very first time I tried, but it's still the most I've ever gotten from trying lucid dreaming. I tried before but just basic DILD and nothing ever happened.

this is not advice nor a suggestion so please do not get me wrong this is infact a statement i came across the drug lsd and as bad as it seems it has changed me positively you see it aloud my brain to go to new extremes i've never experienced before and before that you see i have had the same problems as you but now lucid dreaming just comes to me naturally it allows you to control your subconscious world also your mind will create almost exact replicas of your friends it's almost scary. But it's something you get used to as i said it's not any advice or a suggestion if you take a liking to this and you decide to try it thats up to you.

There are a few things you can try out before LSD :P (if you wish). Sitting awake in pitch black darkness (or close to it) for several minutes (10 minutes or so) before actually attempting your WILD allows your eyes time to adjust to the darkness. They will be more relaxed and won't move around as much. Once you get that "falling" feeling, make sure your whole body is relaxed and you aren't tensing up. Just relax and let your body "drift away." Once you hit SP, alot of times the increased heart beat and eye movements are simply hallucinations. If you know you are calm and relaxed, but your eyes and heart are going crazy, then this is most likely a hallucination and its best just to let them happen. Just ignore them, or if you can't, simply allow them to do their time and then they will go away. Most hallucinations don't last very long (many will come and go, just allow them to come and go on their own will). It sounds to me like you are close to hitting full SP. If you are attempting this when first going to sleep, it can be very difficult to accomplish. I suggest trying to hit SP during these times:

WBTB (wake back to bed)
waking after 4+ hours of sleep, staying awake for a few minutes (5-15 min) and then attemp to hit SP

or

Naps
1-7 hours after waking in the morning, attempt to hit SP during a nap.

Note: Hitting SP outside of these time periods is very possible, but it is so much more difficult.

PS: If your eyes open on their own, then perform a RC (reality check) to make sure you aren't really dreaming. FAs (false awakenings) are very common during LDs...especially WILDs

This scenario happened to me today morning when I tried to WILD. I reached the part where I basically don't have anymore limbs and "itchy" parts popping all over my body. After a while, I heard a sound which I suspect being a hallucination. Just when I heard it, my eyes became rapidly twitching and my heart went crazy.. I just couldn't hold my heart at all. After that, my eyes were moving so rapidly they just opened by themselves, and I lost control of everything.. Are you sure they were nothing but hallucinations? I was a bit worried, which may have caused the pounding heart, but still..

As long as you were calm and you didn't get overly excited then...yeah, I'm almost positive those were hallucinations. Rapid heart beat is a very common hallucination during SP. If this happens again, just keep your deep steady breathes going and relax yourself. The hallucination will soon pass and you will be fine. Most likely the reason your eyes opened on their own is this...You are in SP and your eyes begin moving rapidly (could be a hallucination or may simply be REM...RapidEyeMovement :P), you start focusing/worrying about your eyes and heartbeat, thus breaking your SP (your eyelids are no longer paralyzed and they open). Just try to allow the hallucinations to come and go with no worries. If you stay calm and collected your eyes will remain closed.
