First time... on accident?

I first heard about Lucid Dreaming when I was about 16 years old. It was a minor interest to me at the time, but I never really attempted to do it on any serious level.

I am now 22 years old. The subject of lucid dreaming has come up here an there in the past few months, but still, I've never given serious thought to it as far as doing it myself goes. However, last night, I think I kind of accidentally had one.

I was having a very vivid dream in which I was staying at this house with this girl who, strangely, I had somehow gotten roped into marrying against my will. The dream was very stressful and felt like it lasted a very long time.

At one point, I was trying to sneak out of the house and, though I saw no one else around me, I felt like I was being chased. This is where it started. I very vividly remember pausing and looking down at the ground directly below me for an extended period of time. All of the sudden, something just snapped and I thought somewhat calmly to myself "This is a dream." At this point I looked up and I actually consciously told myself to start running.

I came to a long stone stairway (still outside) that led down to a driveway. I began to think to myself "I'm just going to glide down these stairs instead of stepping," and as I came to the steps, I jumped up into a position similar to a snow skier and begin gliding through the air across the stairway. For a little while it was pure bliss and I was controlling my dream.

Eventually I came to a room where something strange happened. There were these two men looking at me and they made me a feel uncomfortable. Feeling very confident in my ability to control my dream, I screamed (for some reason instead of just thinking like previously) at them something to the effect of "You guys are getting out of my dream!" At this point, they just stared at me, confused. They didn't leave. This is the last thing I remember of my dream.

Has something like this happened to anyone else? Is it possible to kind of slip in and out of a lucid dream state? Why wouldn't they leave when I had been controlling my dream otherwise? It was all so exciting and interesting until that point...

Well, the very reason I joined this site was because I had a lucid dream. Like you, my first lucid dream, I felt incredibly confident with controlling my dream. When I became lucid, it was like someone put glasses over my eyes. Everything became so much more clear. However, also like you, at the end I did have a problem with the control, and I remember nothing after that.

Yes, many people slip in and out of lucidity in their dreams, otherwise known as 'semi-lucidity'.

So glad you became interested though! There are techniques and everything on Dreamviews, so I hope you choose to practice lucidity regularly!

Congradualatiuons, my first lucid dream was also an accident, I had had it right after a psychology lecture on the subject. I'll bet a lot of people here have had them by accident. :)
