My 11-yo can't control imagination

Hello all!
My eleven-year old son likes to daydream while he is trying to go to sleep at night. He imagines himself performing on a stage, having the time of his life. Just when things are going well, the microphone cord gets tied around his ankle and pulls the microphone out of reach. Everyone in the audience then gets angry and says what a bad show it is. The catch is, he can't control whether the cord gets wrapped or not. He has imagined a cordless one and a headset one but the corded one always appears and the same thing happens. This is really bothering him, to the point of tears. I don't know how to help him. I tell him to imagine something else but he is set on this and doesn't want to deviate from it. When he stops daydreaming he can feel the cord around his actual ankle. Help please

Daydream, uh? I wonder, would he be willing to try it in a lucid dream?
Anyway, I would recomend, rather than fight the cord, I would imagine my voice becoming so loud that I don't even need a microphone, wonder if that would work for him?

Yeah Walms idea seems like it would work for that.

It also sounds more like Hynagogic Hallucinations than daydreaming since he said he can feel the cord around his ankle.

Interesting. Is your son usually very critical of himself? You could try having him write out the daydream on a notebook. since he has troubling imagining it. maybe he can write out a better ending instead. Get him to write this story out every day until the daydreams stop.

Yeah... what MoSh just said, write a better ending or, since he seems to have a good imagination, daydream the scenario he would like to see while he is awake and there is no chance of falling into a dream where he can't control it.

Actually, yes, he is very critical of himself. I go to lengths to help him not to be, but it's a long, hard road. I told him what all of you said and mentioned the hallucinogenic thing and daydreaming during the day. He is skeptical, surprise, right? I think he is pretty frustrated, but I will keep encouraging him. He has actually had a few good experiences with performing dances in front of school crowds, the ones that matter=), but he says his "dreams" still go the same way.
