Image after REM [WILD Method]

I'm having a bit of a recurring problem. After using the WILD method, I'll eventually get REM, and after that an image will slowly brighten up and appear, and my closed eyes feel like they're wide open. (Though I think that they might just be wide open)

The problem is that this image seems to be static. I can sort of look around it (risking waking up out of it), but I can't really tell what it is, and it stays the same. I've tried 3 times now, and I've gotten the same result each time.

Is this a 'hypnagogic hallucination' and all I need to do is wait for the dream to finally start, or could having not slept, woken up and then used the technique make it impossible for it to work?

Edit: Actually, I think what I'm seeing is my bed with distorted vision. No idea what I'm doing, then.
