New with a question about WILD technique

Hey guys, I'm glad to see this forum so active and that there's a helpful community around the concept of lucid dreaming.

So here's just a little backround. I've been doing MILD lucid dreaming a lot as a kid (about 5-13). With lots of school work and crazy things I lost a lot of my dream recall (to rushed to wake up and think about what I dreamed). As of the past year or so (im 20 now) i've been writing in a dream journal and I've improved my dream recall to about 3 dreams a night, 5 or so on a good night. Anyways, my MILD techniques are okay, I recognize my dream sign about 30% of the time. (Anything trippy or odd and i bite my cheek). I watched almost everything an youtube so i know the basics.

As for WILD I've been only been seriously trying this technique for about a few nights. I'm a patient person but I was wondering if this is normal.

Backround: Yes I know this is bad but I try this technique mainly before I go to sleep, but I've also tried the wake and back to sleep method a couple times to no avail. And I try this technique on my back, completely still obviously, and focusing/ repeating a word in my head. I know about sounds and vibrations. So the last 2 nights I've gotten to a sound phase (sounded kind of like a helecopter+jet fighter+wind+static all at once. Not too loud, sort of like a fading in and out. Only lasted about 8 seconds. Then out of no where my eyes started to twitch (about 2 times per second) which is what i found odd. First time i gave up after 1 minute of eye twitching vibrations because it was odd. Second time i stayed with it for curiousity sake. It faded away after about 3-4 minutes. Then my body sort of went numb (especially my chest). And somebody coughed and I snapped out of it. I just wanted to check if the eye twitching is normal or if im making some fatal error here (besides prefering to perform this near bed time).

Also I was wondering where/whats the best way to exit sleep paralysis, I mean I was told after the sounds get lower you can try to rolling side to side + 180 degrees roll over method..


Anyways, any tips are greatly appreciated. I'm pretty serious about this and I'm patient but I'd like to give this a try again tonight. Thanks in advance.

I've tried WILD for 3 nights now too, first 2 right after going to bed, yesterday with waking in the middle of the night(wich was a total failure)

the first night I had the sound and the vibrations too, the numbness and some collored patterns/wavy lines

second night I had vibrations, eye twitching, feeling like being sucked into the matress, feeling like my chest expanded to the size of a skippy ball, and more complex collored patterns
and ofcourse numbness
but I think I don't had the sound the 2nd night

eye twitching I had 2 or 3 times, being sucked into the matress 3-4 times, vibrations 2-3 times, chest expanding 1 time during a few minutes(expanding when I inhaled)

but didn't have real sleep paralysis yet, only numbness/disconnected feeling from body(I've had SP once but that was before I ever heard of SP or LD and was when I woke up in the middle of the night, I then discovered it works good to relax and slowly start to move, fingers first, then hands, and so on)

the third night, last night, was a total failure because I fell into a normall sleep within a few seconds(I only remember arranging my pillow so it would be comfortable during my WILD-attempt, laying down and laying a few seconds, next thing I remember is waking up this morning, dd a few reality checks to be sure it wasn't a false awakening, but it wasn't...:( so I'm going back to trying it without sleeping a few hours before again)

btw, me first attempt lasted 1 hour before I couldn't control myself anymore and swallowed, me 2nd was 1 hour and 15 min. and ended for the same reason)

I read in a few guides that swallowing doesn't necessarily mean an instant fail/set back for a WILD. I don't know if this is true or not but I do know that even though i swallowed a couple times I got back to the eye twitching and numbness fairly quickly within minutes.

I tried a WBTB and a normal attempt but I was just too tired last night, like usually I'm going to try again, and modify me WBTB technique (maybe stay up for 10 mins with the lights on instead of only 3 or 4)

Glad to hear that others have had the eye twitching. It was really annoying until I fought through it.

I have tried WILD, however at the time I was into the New Age movement so it was called trying to "OBE" (AP), the equivalent of saying an out-of-body experience. Still a lot of debate on this area, but the controversy is the dream is actually an out of body experience. Anyways, that's completely different. I didn't know how to do a WILD last night, but since I remembered some of the protocol to enter an OBE I decided to apply this to get into a lucid dream. I was almost successful to some degree.

After getting comfortable, I close my eyes and start relaxation (usually staring at the back of my eyelids, breathing technique, or progressive relaxation if it gets too tough). After relaxing for about 3-5 seconds (I visualize/day-dream ALOT. Relaxing to a drastic amount is like breathing for me; easy-peasy) I start to get some hypnagogic imagery. This can range from the very simple ones (colors) to complex ones after like 4 minutes (seeing objects' outlines, hearing voices, seeing detailed images). After like 5 minutes I either usually remember that I'm breathing or remember that about my body (only to discover it's numb in some areas). After even furthering my relaxtion (10 minutes into it now) almost all of my body feels numb. This is the part that gets really tricky for me though. At this point the hallucinations are getting pretty detailed and I begin to get distracted. The floating feeling and vibrations are the ones that especially get to me. What helps a lot is day-dreaming about the whole process (don't just skip it and get to lucid dreaming automatically; it's like using visualization for a sport. In order to improve you have to replay the whole process and take into account your faults and errors). Next time you have the chance, day-dream about the parts that you get stuck at. Now here's where the creativity kicks in. Find a method that works for you that helps you stay passive about the whole feeling thing (I got past the whisper stage by day-dreaming that I would just make my own mental program that every time I would visualize a scary voice it would automatically turn off my interpretation of it).
