      I'm New and Evidently Weird.

      Hi.

My first question is a general dreaming question that I can't find the answers to on the main site or anywhere on Google for that matter.

I was wondering if there were theories about why people dream the way they do. (Dream types?) Sometimes at work or home a bunch of us will tell about their dreams from the night before. The discussion ultimately ends with people telling me I'm weird. :-/

My dreams are very seldom about day to day tasks. Sometimes they are like epic movies where I invent entire worlds and story lines. Often the topics are quite intense like the the end of the world via hale, tornado, lightning, flood ect. More often they are not so much epics but still very complex with lots of unordinary activities. For instance last night I dreamt I rode my bike to a prison where it was common for the public to walk in and have lunch. Other dreams include swimming in rivers with dolphins, flying through malls on my back several feet in the air, and being given tests of loyalty by God himself (yikes).

I have had two types of reoccurring dreams for many years only they are not conventional reoccurring dreams. The subject is the same only the way they play out is different. For instance I have a mansion appear in my dreams. It's always the same house just in a different location. The first time I dreamt about it I didn't know my way around and was frightened, each time after I knew the house better and knew I had been there before. Now when I dream about the mansion (of which the "tower room" is always of highest importance) I feel as though I own the place. I know every hallway and secret passage.

I also have had reoccurring dreams of plane crashes. Only I'm always on the ground watching it crash. Sometimes the planes are big commercial airliners and other times small crafts. Following each dream's crash I knew exactly the number of people who have died on board.

What I'd like to know is why I rarely have mundane dreams. Why are mine always so bazar and complex? I'm grateful for the entertainment every night and look forward to dreaming but I feel like I'm the only one who dreams this way. Is there a reason?

      They tell me I'm weird.

Hey, Welcome to the Forum ACKislander

Don't let someone label you wierd because they don't expirience the same thing you do. Why are they not wierd?
Anyway. I think you just have a very creative personality and your subconscious is your playground.
You may also have some of those mundane dreams throughout the night inbetween these epic dreams.
Reaccuring dreams. I have them also. Some say it could be a sign. It could be somthing very evident in your waking life. Ponder over your dream content and then ponder over your life and what constitutes it.

First off, welcome to DV, ACKislander! We're all here because of our affinity for something that seems unorthodox/wierd.

As for dream types, I think it just depends on the person and their waking experiences. I've never had reccuring dreams and I'm not sure exactly what causes them. I got through times where it seems that my dreams are all rather mundane, but sometimes the more exciting ones come along for a time, but I'm not really sure why.

To me it'd be interesting to do a study on the effects of daily events on dreams, but it would have to be very in depth and for a long period of time. I assume there'd be a myriad of things that would play a role, but since there is relatively little information on the origins of dreams, we just don't know.

I can only imagine what God's loyalty test would be like, but I have had a dream where I had to pass this class in order to make it into heaven.... An odd form of Pergatory, wouldn't you say?

Sorry if I wasn't more helpful but if you have any other questions I'll do my best to try and answer them. See you around

Well if you were looking for a support group then you came to the right place...::stands up, greets the room and admits that I'm an epic dreamer::

I'm the exact same way and weird is a very subjective word. I think Howetzer was right on the money about you having a very creative personality and that you should enjoy it for what's it worth...even if your creativity only blossoms in your dreams. Either way, trust me you are not alone.

Either way, trust me you are not alone.
