New to the game
Howdy guys! Lately I've been interested in obtaining more lucid dreams as a stepping stone onto my want to travel through the "astral world" with complete control. I searched around on the subject of OBEs and was instantly intrigued at the thought, so I thought I would start at the bottom and work my way up.
I have a question that I hope you guys could help me with, if you have the time.
:panic: Today was my first time performing a successful reality check/test in which I was overcome with straight horror. The situation was a mix of me realizing that I had a pinky finger in between my index and middle finger; and also me realizing that what had just happened not a minute before was a false awakening. My mind instantly produced the sound of a loud scream that teleported me back into my bed repeating "I'm dreaming, wake up!", thus waking me up.
Question: Why is it that in every dream I have, I always have a slight feeling of dread in my mind. It is like I am always afraid of where I'm at or what is going to happen next.
Example: I had a dream of watching TV in the living room alone at night in the dark and I almost felt I had to race against the clock to get a few lights on before something came out of the kitchen after me...yet nothing did, I was afraid of nothing.
Thanks for reading and for any help guys! :)

Hey there, welcome to DV.
I can't really say why your dreams always seem to have scary undertones, unless you're naturally a fearful person. If you want to try to get rid of it, you could try using a mantra. Just repeat a saying while you're falling asleep, like "I am safe" or "my dreams will be pleasant"... The exact words don't matter a whole lot, but you should try to keep them positive. You wouldn't want a mantra like "I am not afraid," because your subconscious could leave out the "not" and just pick up on "afraid." Hope that helps. Good luck. :)
