      Cool Hey

      Hey Guys,

I'm new around here. My friend told me about lucid dreaming and I have personally become lucid 3 times I think. My problem is that these occur way too randomly and I cannot control them, i just keep closing my eyes and thinking and telling myself what I will see when I open my eyes, but it never happens. I just get frustrated and eventually slip back into dream state. I'm on summer vacation right now so I can mess around and experiment with sleeping hours and so forth as much as I want. It would be great if somebody could help me get to an effective way to enter lucidity and most of all, take control of it. Thank you in advance if you take the time to acknowledge my post

Welcome to the Forum! You've come to the right place

The first suggestion anyone is going to give is Always, Always Dream Journal and Reality Check. I think some people here actually have it posted over their door or say it as a prayer at night.

That is the best advise anyone can give. But nonetheless, there are so many more factors that can also be just as vital.

Lets start with you, what were the conditions like when you had these lucid dreams? Anything you can think of

Thank you for replying. I am very good at keeping a dream journal, and this morning I managed to write 3/4 of page because I remembered so much. However, I keep forgetting to do reality checks, which is a problem. As far as I can remember, 2 of the lucid dreams were just random where I managed to ask myself if I was dreaming, and the other I realized that I was dreaming because I saw a videogame which I didn't own (yet somehow I don't realize when I see flying kamikaze pigs :p). I tried DIELD last night but I jumped because I set the alarm too loud, I'm going to try again tonight with a lower volume. What is a good way of remembering reality checks and any tips on easy induction techniques?

Also, when I do become lucid, I don't feel very immersed in it. I feel like there are barriers blocking some of my senses, and it sometimes feels like trying to control the direction of a movie. As far as I can remember, I didn't feel touch, taste or smell when I was lucid. This probably has something to do with not having full control, but could you clear it up for me?

The only suggestion I can give for reality checks is to keep trying to develop them into a habit.

Any dreams you do remember, you can attempt to extrapolate a common thing or theme and use that to signal reality checks in real life. For example, if you commonly find you're dreaming of playing video games, remind yourself to do reality checks when you're playing games. Maybe even write a note and stick it on the side of your TV or Monitor.

Otherwise, maybe get a watch and set its alarm to go off every couple hours to signal a check.

Induction has a whole nest of options for you. When do you usually go to bed? When do you usually wake up?

This likely is more of a clarity thing than a control thing.

Next time, trying spinning in place, rubbing your hands together, or shouting something related to what you want to achieved ("Clarity now!", for example). It sounds silly, but give it a shot and see how it helps.

Well, as far as my dream signs go, I can't really find anything in common (I have about 7 entries since I only started a week ago). Since its summer, I go to sleep between 24:00 and 2:00 and wake up roughly at 10:00 to 11:00 AM. I want to avoid losing my progress, I attempted lucid dreaming about a year ago for the first time, and I was doing well, but then I stopped remembering dreams and I slowly began to forget completely. In addition, I also lost interest after failure to get anything after several weeks, so I gave up. My interest was only re-initiated once I became lucid for the first time (I had no control but it was still pretty awesome), but I want to make sure I don't start forgetting dreams again, do you have any tips on that?

My best suggestion at this time is try and incorporate a WBTB into your sleep schedule. It should help incredibly with recall and vividness, and assist you with becoming lucid at the same time as improving your recall.

The science behind a WBTB is you interrupt your regular sleep cycle during or just before a major REM-Sleep period, and then return to bed after only a short amount of time (15min-1hour), after utilizing some motor function. This causes a more aware brain state whilst simultaneously being easier to get back to sleep. Your body is used to be both asleep and awake at this time. Coupled with the REM rebound, which increases dream length, clarity and vividness, you'll find remembering dreams enormously easier, whilst simultaneously training your awareness.

If you usually sleep 8 hours, set you clock for 6 in. Get up, move around a bit for 30min and head back to bed with the intent to remember your dreams. Give it a shot and post back here with what you remembered

Alright, I'm going on holiday tomorrow, and i'll try out the WBTB method for those 5 days I'm off.
Also, last night was the first night I did not remember anything for dream recall I think this happens when I am woken up by somebody else, because when I wake up naturally I usually don't forget but when somebody wakes me up I blank out.
Thanks so much for your help ExoByte, you've been a great help
I'll post back sometime next week
